Mumsnet is great but.......

Hello dad's,

My wife has been on mumsnet since the birth of our son. She's always telling me how great it is. So I have finally started.

I just think that there should be an alternative for dads. It's great that there is a section on here for us dads, but I just think that its not the same.

Is this just the male ego or do I have a point? I don't know.

I'm thinking of starting up something similar to mumsnet but for dads but want to find out what you guy's think and is it something that you would use?

The only thing close is fathers direct (there is a link in one of the other conversations in the men's room) but its just a government websit with a lot of information. Don't get me wrong it's good if you need information but not the same as a mumsnet type discussion board.

Oh yes, Dr Tanya...I'm sure we could devote an entire thread to her! (Discussing her child rearing methods of course)

UnquietDad · 06/02/2007 09:15

Fat Monkey link isn't working for some reason.

Kaloo20 · 06/02/2007 09:17

LOL - hang on I'll ring DH and find out why

UnquietDad · 07/02/2007 13:08

so did you get anywhere?

Pann · 07/02/2007 13:58

No, don't do it. Sometimes I think you have to fight through alot of rubbish on MN to find the good bits, but it is NOTHING compared to dadsnet stuff.

Good advice there to avoid threads with "Men", or "Fanjos" in the title....or "just-breathed-in-what-do-I-do-now" type stuff, and unless you are very Brave/Stupid/Well-informed and diplomatic ( delete as appropriate) avoid the breastfeeding debates. Limbs have been lost in there. Overuse the daft icons, always say hi to Welsh Boris when you see her, assume nothing, suspect everyone and suspect no-one(eh?), remember that we don't always mean what we say at times (some more than others) and there is often little space to put it right, try not to admire too many individual posters >, and, like me, remain polite at all times.
And be brave. Reminds me of Robert Plant screaming to the sound techies "And I want everything louder than everything else!!"

There. I think that covers all bases.

UnquietDad · 07/02/2007 14:07

Especially avoid "Why are men so useless?" threads as you will be so tempted to wade in, and then be accused of being the exception that proves the rule...

aDad · 07/02/2007 14:10

mumsnet topic about a dads forum

HappyDaddy · 20/02/2007 13:16

Definately stick with it on here mate. I personally have found loads of useful advice and support on here. Can't help thinking that asking the same on a dads only site would result in this kind of response -

"Really, bummer. Fancy a pint? Like my new car?" etc etc.

Nothing like a bunch of mad women to make you feel welcome and relaxed enough to talk about anything.

Also, they love a bit of man attention in here.

cazza6 · 11/03/2007 22:08

If any of you are still looking at this thread, my brother and I have just started a website for dads called holdingthebaby.com - there's only about ten members at the moment so limited forums but have a look and if you like what you see, then spread the word
Having said all that, this is my first night on mums net and I'm having a ball looking through all the conversations instead of doing the work I'm meant to be doing!!
