Here is the text of my complaint to the BBC.
" Complaint Summary: Dreadful misogynistic remark by a panel member.

Full Complaint: when asked about the Mansfield Town FC chairman's next actions after giving his manager his old Aston Martin following a big win, one of the panel suggested that should they win by a bigger margin in the next game, the chairman has an attractive wife and maybe she should be next.

I really can't believe that the BBC would let this nasty, discriminatory remark and it's revealing attitude be broadcast. Fighting Talk is a 'comedy' about sport. Reducing ANY woman to the status of 'goods and chattels' to be used to 'recognise' a sporting outcome is breathtakingly offensive. The panel chair said absolutely nothing in response.

Is this show aired 'live'? Is it recorded? Either way it was an utterly shameful remark. I've liked listening to FT over the years. But lets kick blatant sexism OFF sports programmes. I'd be interested in hearing an apology prior to the next show."

Relax - it was meant to be a joke. He wouldn't really give away his wife!

Hmmmm - my gut reaction was, it's a joke and let's take it in the spirit it was intended.

HOWEVER - I find the level of bigotry (by no means limited to misogyny) in football to be nothing short of frightening. It's probably because I expect that level of misogny in football, that my gut reaction was just that.

If I relate the same to rugby, which I follow more than football, I can say with certainty that I'd be very surprised to experience anywhere near the same level of bigotry, therefore wouldn't expect that of sort comment and so would be very surprised if I heard it.

tar GMSS - I'd put it in Chat as well (peaceful back water that we are here) and the reaction has been quite mixed.

and challenging the misogyny in footie media is why those two eejits from Sky got the boot. Not least of which was the comments they made about Sian Massey, and any other female official.

No, his car is property to give away as he pleases. His wife isn't property. The 'joke' is a grotesque one and that's why I complained and invite others to.

Hardly surprising, bit of a non-issue in the grand scheme of things isn't it.

Well, it depends in who's grand scheme we are thinking? Objecting to a joke about women being passed around like a possession is in the grand scheme. Well, mine anyway. Sorry you don't agree. The BBC may or may not see it your way, though their 'code of ethics' is up for a bit of scrutiny, ime.

Well obviously yours. Pan, seriously, where is this headed? So many people could get so offended about so much. Where does it end? Is freedom of speech becoming endangered? It was a poor taste joke. There is so much more for you to take issue with, so why don't you?
