Christ no. But then our family problem is too little fertility as opposed to too much.

Plus, DW likes being on the Pill as it levels out her moods and stops her being an over-emotional car-crash of a human being (her words).

Dw was on the pill but wasnt too effective and along came baby number 3. Hoping having this will make sure there are no more little accidents!

I've heard that even though some men are back to everyday duties a few hours after the snip, patients shouldn't be forced into thinking that is what everyone should do.

Some blokes can be very sore for quite a while (there can end up being quite a bit of 'rummaging around')

Cringing here too but quite happy to take it easy for a bit

My DH had this done just before easter - a walk in surgery took about an hour all told. The main problem for him were the stiches which pulled a bit - once they'd dissolved all was ok. He had it done on a thursday evening and was back at work on monday morning.

Was just done with local in the doctors office so not in hospital (not in UK) and then he went back a couple of times to have it checked.

Just waiting for the all clear now!

OP - it is that easy. Start to end is about 30 mins. You're walking gingerly for about 2 days and you have balls that look like purple grapefruit for the same time.

Snorbs · 23/06/2012 13:57

I had it done six or seven years ago. It wasn't particularly straightforward for some reason and it took quite a while to heal. I understand that the keyhole surgery they tend to do these days has fewer complications than the technique my doctor used.

Nevertheless it was the right decision and I don't regret it for a moment. And don't forget to make sure you've got some snug-fitting Y-fronts to wear. Newly vasectomised bollocks and loose boxer shorts are a bad combination >_

laidbackflat · 24/06/2012 18:29

I haven't had the op (as somebody said above, our issues were too little prospect of conception) but judging from those that I know who have it's normally 48 hours rest afterwards and then all is well. For the few who get complications, though, it can be quite nasty.

mumnosbest · 24/06/2012 18:34

Thanks all. Got an appointment this week to talk about it so best get shopping for them y-fronts!

DH had the snip 3 years ago, took about 30 mins, he got a taxi home.
They can be a bit slow getting results back, we had to do a fair bit of chasing up, waiting until the right person was on shift etc.
One side was incorrectly cut, so DH had to go back and have it redone, that went without a hitch too, we got the all clear a couple of months later.
I'd second the undies comment, support is key in the early post-op weeks.

Yama · 24/06/2012 18:37

Dh had it last year. He drove there and back. Over in minutes, sore for a few days but so worth it. Wink

Thanks. Did everyone have to go for this counselling appointment 1st? Might take the 3 dcs so they can see why we want it. Surely 3 is enough!

yes I did - in the NHS I think it is obligatory, but you won't have a prob. wit h3 dcs. I had/have one but we shared that a snip is nothing compared with a hysterectomy.

ps make sure those undies are real budgie snugglers - you don't want them grapefruit banging around. Good luck!

s'true.

InMySpareTime · 24/06/2012 19:11

We had to go for the counselling, ideally both of you should go, they like you to be sure you definitely don't want more in future.

mumnosbest · 27/06/2012 17:43

That's no prob, for once we agree!
