Cycling in the Netherlands - where to go?

We're looking at going on holiday to the Netherlands next year with our DD who will be 18 months by then. Can anyone recommend any nice places to go cycling? We're going to Rotterdam and Amsterdam and we're looking for anywhere near there or somewhere that isn't too far away on a train. DD loves being in her bike seat at the moment so hopefully she'll still love being on a bike next year!

How far do you want to cycle? You might be better getting a trailer or bakfiets. They're a bit more comfortable for longer rides

Have a look at little clogs holidays website, they specialise in holidays to the Netherlands and Belgium. We were in the Netherlands this summer with our 9 and 11 year olds and we loved how easy and safe it was to cycle around. We stayed at Duinrell in Wassenaar which is fabulous for kids.

A mix of rides really. We want some short ones with something to do nearby, and a few longer ones where hopefully baby can fall asleep for a bit. We're planning on hiring a trailer so we can do longer rides.

Thanks, that looks very useful!

What do you count as long/ short? Rotterdam to Amsterdam isn't very far on a road bike, but is a long way on a city bike if you only normally only do 10k! You can normally get the train back.

De Biesbosch national park is nice, you can cycle through the downs round Scheveningen, Rotterdam to Middelburg has a nice ending and goes across all the bridges and storm gates.

Depending on how far you want to go, you can go out do Zandvoort then along the coast down through the dunes. I have a nice 90km loop from there, fine on a road bike/gravel bike/something with reasonably quick rolling tyres. No idea if you'd consider that long or short, the other ride we did on that holiday was 170km so that was a shorter one. There's a 25km dyke to Lelystad which is good fun with a tailwind and there's like an outlet village at the end of it, but that would be a big day out!

I went on the overnight ferry to Hook of Holland and back. Utrecht, Rotterdam, Breda, Den Bosch, Arnhem are all lovely. Cycling round NL is such a joy, the Dutch are lovely laid back people. I used Komoot to plan my routes and navigate

So many lovely towns. Delft is one. Look for bike paths that are separated from the roads.

I love the Netherlands and have lived there. But bike theft is terrible. Maybe look for campsites/chalets at places like the Europarks. Great for kids!
