Cycle lane cars continue normal?

Hi everyone,
im very careful driving around cyclists always straddle lanes/move over into complete other lane ( if safe) unless road really wide! But I still doubt myself with cycle lanes.
unless meeting a cyclist at a island I will wait behind until passed the island is it ok to continue in your lane if they are in a cycle lane?
I always move right to my lane but is this right unless obviously on a very narrow road!

example below, I was behind when I met them just before this island so I held back then when passed I moved out perhaps slightly on the hatch markings for that first bit but stayed right to my lane

The Highway Code just says when overtaking cyclists that you need to give them plenty of room, at least 1.5 metres. It also says to be prepared for cyclists to make sudden movements if they need to avoid drains or other obstacles that wouldn't trouble a car. So, I would not pass a cyclist in a cycle lane without giving them as much room as I would normally if they're just on the road. So, I wouldn't overtake by a pedestrian island like that, and would wait until I had more width.

Yes I didn’t and never pass at an island I waited til we had passed the island went to the right of my lane/even on those hatch markings. Just wanted to check that’s the correct thing with cycle lanes

Well, there's no specific guidance, but I would expect to give them the same room as overtaking normally, which would usually mean moving at least partially into the other side of the road. Unless it was a particularly wide road.

As a cyclist (and driver), you did the right thing not overtaking til after the island. It's terrifying when drivers assume the cycle lane markings form an impenetrable barrier and skim past your ankles. Give as much room as you can once through the island bit and you'll be fine and much appreciated.

so To clarify as when there’s no cycle lane I always straddle the lanes but with a cycle lane unless on a narrow road I keep right to my lane and never go passed when there is an island I wait until after the island.
in this instance in the photo I waited til past the island moved over right and my right tyres were slightly even on those hatch markings when passing cyclist.
just lack confidence I’m doing it right I guess!
thank you

Technically you shouldn't go into the hatched area save for an emergency, but practically as a cyclist so long as you pass 1.5 metres away from me, I wouldn't be concerned.

You can go onto a hatched area with a broken line around it, as the one in the picture is, if it's necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so.
