Tricycle for 6 year old (to use properly as a bike)

DD is a proficient little cyclist and usually zooms around happily on her bike. However she's been ill and is not allowed to ride her bike for a while due to the risk of her putting a weakened foot hard on the ground.

We usually spend a lot of time outdoors on walks and bike rides and I'm trying to find a solution to keep DD active and both of us out in the fresh air exploring like we usually do.

Does anyone have experience of a proper tricycle that rather than being a toy could be comfortably ridden by a 6 year old for a few miles? We'd be on surfaced paths but I'd want proper tyres for a bit of cushioning.

Could you put some stabilisers on her existing bike? That effectively turns a bike into a tricycle and would save you having to buy something new for what is hopefully a short period of time.
Hope she is soon well again.

I don't think she'd be safe with stabilisers as they would completely change the handling of her bike which she is used to using in a certain way. The thing with tricycles is they are more stable and the seat also tends to be lower to the ground. I also want her to have something fun out of what has been a traumatic time

Look on Amazon , there are loads .
My son has sn and I had a x type one when he was around 6 which cost me £150 ish from eBay ( new ) and I'm looking at getting him a new one soon and have seen lots of Amazon .

Something like this then? Bit pricey for a short term thing though. Is there anywhere in your area that runs accessible cycling sessions, like a British Cycling disability hub? They may have trikes for hire or may know somewhere you can hire one.

Thanks. Yes I can't run to a Pashley Robin but I'm looking at similar second hand.

My understanding is that the handling on tricycles is actually really hard. They corner very differently. The additional weight would also be quite hard to deal with too.

What about a Followme tandem? I've just sold ours as my son moved up to a 24" wheel. It will only accommodate up to and including a 20". It's a fantastic, sturdy bit of kit. Very well engineered. Used ours mountain biking at trail centres as well as the usual road rides. She wouldn't 'need' to put the affected foot down.
