Urgent Saddle Sore advice needed.

Name change for this as I've been asking everyone I know so it's a little outing.

OH has a small but painful saddle sore. Stopped cycling for three weeks, no improvement. Doctor prescribed antibiotics, it cleared up. We did two short (3 hour) rides this weekend and it's come right back.

We have planned a 2 week moving on cycle tour in northern Scotland starting this Friday. 40 - 50 miles a day, different stop every night. There's no obvious way we can do it if he can't cycle.

Anyone got a magic bullet solution that might save our trip? Or are we just fucked, basically?

Such a small thing but so damned annoying!

Has he tried sudocrem?

Do you use chamois cream? (Assos is good < £20 from Wiggle] Makes a big difference. As does properly fitting, good quality bib shorts

Assuming your using cycling shorts (that fit - they should be tight) with no other underwear and sudocream, have you considered a new saddle? Ideally one that's narrower than his current one wherever it rubs.

I was also going to suggest a new saddle- dependant where the sore is, a seat with a good cutout may help.
And possibly chamois cream for every ride.

What about the moleskin patches you can get in the foot care section?

It's adhesive on the back and designed to put on bits of your feet where shoes are rubbing, they sell it in sainsburys and Superdrug that I've seen.

Thanks everyone!

We went away on the 22nd so I've only just caught up with these now we're back but wanted to say thanks to everyone who tried to offer a solution.

He's tried Sudocrem, Chamois Cream, is using a well broken in saddle that hasn't caused issues before, has good quality well fitted cycle shorts, no underwear.
He wondered about moleskin or the Compeed blister patches, but worried about using them on pubic hair and thought shaving might cause more issues,

In the end, the doctor gave him a course of antibiotics which cleared it up, then another course to take with us in case it flared up again.

We avoided long rides for the first 2 days while it healed, then managed a full moving on tour. Another one appeared in a different place towards the end of the tour and he started taking the second course of antibiotics. At that point we were so close to the end of the tour we just carried on and in fact it didn't get any more inflamed.

It's a bit of a worry as he's never had them before like this and it did add a level of uncertainty to the tour. I suspect it's an age thing (as so many things seem to be as you hit your 60s) and maybe just a consequence of skin being looser and rubbing more?

Anyway, really appreciate that you all took the trouble to reply.
