Cycling books....any inspiring written by women?

I'm looking for a couple of books for a birthday present for my cycling buddy. She's into female solo or group travellers and I've previously bought books about wild swimming and running but we've recently taken up cycling and are hooked. Any recommendations, if I google there are lots!

Emily Chapel’s Where There’s a Will. I really enjoyed reading it as I like the way she writes. She recounts her experiences of racing ultra endurance cycling events like the Transcon. She also talks about loss, grief and depression.

The Greatest: Life and Times of Beryl Burton. By William Fotheringham. Beryl needs no introduction!!

The Breakaway by Nicole Cooke. It’s a depressing, but sadly not shocking read about the rampant sexism and inequality she encountered.

I also really enjoyed Lizzie Deignan’s book Steadfast. It’s under Lizzie Armitstead. That made me rage. She talks about all the support Cav got to win the world champs vs how she got sweet fuck all. Nothing changes!!

All great books about women cyclists anyway weather you like cycling or not!!

Anna McNuff - Llama Drama, which is her and a friend cycling the length of the Andes, or 50 Shades of the USA which is her cycling all of the US states.

Anna Mcnuff, she's who I'd seen a review about. I've just ordered Llama Drama. Must try not to read it first!

Anything by Dervla Murphy, who cycled from Ireland to India in the 1960s, and then carried on.

I also came on to say Emily Chappell. I love her. She writes really well. Also Anna mcnuff- fifty shades of the USA

Llama Drama is brilliant. I also enjoyed her book about running in New Zealand

Anne Mustoe has written a couple of books which I have read and enjoyed. She was an ex headmistress who picked up a bike when she retired and ended up cycling pretty much round the world.

I saw Emily Chappell giving a talk an Adventure Festival weekendy thing and she was fascinating - very thoughtful and thought provoking so I’m sure her book would be great.

I'm not a cyclist but I love reading Dervla Murphys books, they are quite old now (70s) but she's a very engaging writer.

One More Croissant for the Road, Felicity Cloake.

This one is quite new and might be interesting. I've not read it but I was at school with Hannah and she wasn't stupid so probably writes a good book! www.theguardian.com/books/2021/mar/27/revolutions-by-hannah-ross-review-the-story-of-women-on-two-wheels

Neighneigh · 07/05/2021 16:36
