Rang out HH insurance and extra cover for DH's new bike will be £70! and we'd need PLI too!

So looking at Cycling UK & British cycling for the PLI - but who else does insurance?

As the owner of many bikes, I wold advise changing your buildings and contents insurance to M&S when you renew. They include bikes and hace a very high single item value. Get the version that covers you out of the house, premium or something. £70 is about right though.

I've used ETA in the past. Seemed reasonably priced.

KatyMac · 28/12/2018 09:36

Thanks Bikerunski - I'll look when I renew but I need this year yo be sorted

70 plus another 35 or 46 each is a bit expensive for us & as we are one car we need the PLI too

ETA seems cheap - thanks Zampa

I ended up changing my house insurance to one that included all our bikes (4 road bikes, including 2 expensive ones and a track bike) for minimal extra cost. I'll need to check who it is with though - can't remember off the top of my head though. It's not LV= though, as they were going to charge as much again for the bikes as the whole buildings and contents insurance cost me with the new insurer Shock

KatyMac · 30/12/2018 13:14

oh if your remember I'd like the name - I'll get a price from M&S too when my renewal is up

I'm also ringing to check whether pli is covered on my hh too

Our John Lewis insurance covers my daughter's saddles and riding gear & would cover cycles and other sports equipment individual value £5K. Cycling UK membership is good value for the 3rd party insurance, as the 10% off at Halfords, Snow & Rock, Cotswold usually cover part of the cost of membership

House insurance (buildings and contents) is with Privilege.

Unescorted · 03/01/2019 15:36

Ours are on our contents insurance - Privilege here too. Check they are covered in the shed if that is where you keep them. Ours are all stored in the house, with the pedals and front wheels removed because we had someone try to pinch one from the laundry...while DS was in the house. We only got it back because it had no pedals on and DS and a random man ran after the thief.

Twigletaddict · 03/01/2019 15:46

House insurance typically includes public liability insurance for liabilities arising out of general cycling.

Mine is with Hiscox, £3.5k per bike, max of £10k in a locked outbuilding as standard.

Twigletaddict · 03/01/2019 15:49

Just to confirm - free of charge bike cover. Worth adding the additional legal expenses option though.

prettybird · 03/01/2019 16:52

The PLI insurance I used to get via the CTC (now Cycling UK) membership - and then latterly via ds' Silver membership of British cycling.

Now that he's no longer racing, I need to make sure that we are all members of one or t'other organisation. Not just for the PLI but to supper their activities in support of cycling.

Thanks everyone - I guess I have a morning of phoning round ahead of me

WRT keeping it in the shed - if someone what to steal them, they will - I've got a heavy chain round a concrete post and a chain bike lock and a D lock both "gold standard" or something like that

I'm hoping they will look see three different types of lock and decide it will be too noisy!

It's so depressing it has to be like this
