Transporting balance bike by bike!

As per the title, really. DS has got right into his balance biking, which is excellent. However to get to suitable locations for him to practice involves a journey and I'd like to make it by bike. Has anyone managed to find a way to safely transport a balance bike and child by bike? He's on a rear mounted seat which seems to rule many options out. Can you get trailers that hitch to the rear forks rather than the seat post?

It's just such a pain having to drive, I'd far rather cycle - then I can justify a coffee and cake stop before we go home! Grin

How much space between your back and child seat?
Small balance bikes can be mainly stuffed in a rucksack and transported. Just remember to put the back wheel at the top, or you get smacked in the head with the handlebars!

Not that much room unfortunately although it might be worth a shot. Think it'll be right in DSs face though and also, not convinced I have a big enough backpack any more.

Was looking idly at one wheeled cargo trailers on eBay...

I have a burley solo, it attaches via a hitch which you slot through the quick release. Blooming marvellous it is too!! Have towed DS thousands of miles, it handles well, stores well and easy to collapse and fold. His Balance bike easily fits in the storage area behind the seat. The balance bike is so light I could easily strap it to my bike or dismantle (bars, seat all come off via quick release) and use panniers... but I’ve got the trailer. Balance bike is a Cruzee which is the lightest out there (nearly half the weight of the Isla!!).

There’s a good second hand market for decent trailers.

That’s the quick release on the rear wheel BTW, so the kind of hitch you are after. I believe the Thule’s and their predecessor Chariot also attach via a hitch on the quick release.

I leave the hitch on my bike all the time even when not towing. It just makes attaching the tow bar quicker... although the hitch isn’t difficult to put in place if you were to use different bikes.
