I have an interview to become the cook for a cycling cafe next week, very excited!
I need to cook one of their regular items then one of my own, which they think would suit the cafe.
I have a few ideas but what would you like to see on the menu for hungry cyclists?
It needs to be something savoury, preferably a single portion item. I'm just trying a recipe for cauliflower cheese pasties to see what they're like.
Thanks

My fav cafe does Derbyshire oatcakes ( bit like pancakes) with different fillings like mushrooms in sauce or cheese and onion and also sweet fillings. They also do sweet potato curry in wraps which you can have hot or cold.

At home I do home made Boston baked beans with belly pork (in the slow cooker), I think it's from a Hairy Bikers recipe from years back.

Also years ago I worked in a paper shop and we sold Sausage Roll butties and they were delicious.

Good luck with your interivew. Sounds really exciting. I will cross my fingers for you.

Thank you. Love the sound of sweet potato curry wraps!

They are lovely, to be honest it just looks like frozen veg and squares of roast sweet potato. The sauce is pretty dry so it's not too messy. If I remember correctly there is refried beans and cheese too. . . . mmmmm

How about doing frittata in muffin cups with chorizo or feta? Or crustless quiche cups?

Savoury flapjack would be great as it would tick lots of boxes in cyclists needs - carbs, salt, bit of protein, easy to take away in a jersey pocket if they are doing a lot of miles

Curry wraps sound lovely, but you do have to consider that if people are working hard on the bike after, road bikes put you in a position where you can get a bit refluxy and curry or fish for the next umpteen miles isn't good.

You don't want to do things that need too much prep as people are served as clubs turn up in big groups and don't have long for their stop

Homemade rice cakes, with plenty of nuts and seeds. There's a recipe from one of the pro-teams somewhere on the web.

Something that can be wrapped and put in a jersey pocket for later would be great. Something like rocky road but without the chocolate. Flapjacks but nothing too crumbly that's going to be a bugger to wash out later.

For sit down food, a protein and carb source, you want to eat quickly without scalding yourself as you usually don't want your body to cool down too much before riding again. Pasties, quiches, some sort of pasta salad would be good. Really good filled baps, meatballs and pasta.

I second the poster who said that curry is likely to repeat on you later.

Good luck!
