Cycling with a baby

I am a keen cyclist and cycled 5 (hilly) miles into work every day before going on mat leave. DS now 10 weeks old and I am keen to cycle with him (not to work but loads of cycle paths near me). I can't seem to get a straight answer but could someone let me know if this is right. Seats on bike 9 months + trailer 12 months+ . Only option at present heinously expensive Dutch 'cargo bikes' which you can attach isofix car seats to?

We waited until 8 months corrected age (premature) when we had a front mounted seat ..... The first of many.

Anyone tried one of these (Babboe cargo bike and Urban Arrow)

There are bike trailers that you can get a car seat style attachment for babies. They attach to the trailer seat and rear face

You can get an infant sling thing for a Thule trailer.

What put me off was the bouncing around of the baby at much higher speeds than when in a pushchair. Once DD could hold their head up well I was comfortable with short rides.

But at that age the riding was more for my enjoyment than hers so I didn't do much, we had a Bob and walked miles and miles instead.

There's also box/cargo bike (bakfiets is the Dutch word, or christiania bikes are a Danish maker) you can get brakets to fit baby car seats. Looks somewhat like the first image NapQueen posted

A box bike/taga might feel safer as baby is where you can see them and are a bit more visible to cars.

We put a small handle-type carseat in a dual trailer. Strapped it in in 7 different ways. Very secure. I've seen other people do this. Fine for road, too bumpy for offroad.

I had them in back-of-bike seats from 6 months, but 8 months probably is better. Again, only on smooth roads at first.

I got a Hamax caress rear bike seat when DD was 13m. I really wish we'd got it sooner. She loves it and often asks to go out on the bike. It fixes to the down tube and is easy to fix and remove.

We were lucky enough to be selected as a MN product tester for the Thule Cougar Chariot which is a bike trailer which transforms into pushchair and jogger (plus more, but I only have these three kits).
This is an amazing bit of kit. You can hitch it to your bike with the stroller wheels attached upside down then when you get to your destination can stow the bike hitch arm and put the stroller wheels on.
There is a baby attachment, but I never had this.
It is pricey at around 500ish but amazing design and build, I use it daily and enjoy cycling/walking dogs/jogging with it.
well I don't enjoy jogging with it but that's not down to the trailer!

I should add it has suspension so a very comfy ride. DD falls asleep in the trailer in any use of it.

I also product tested the Thule Cougar Chariot and love it! Not sure what age it is suitable for with the infant attachment, but worth investigating. So much more than a bike trailer!
