General changes in speech patterns? Weird question!

Has anyone else noticed a ‘trend’ in speech patterns changing within the general population? I’ve noticed over the past 12 months my husband frequently verbally starts and restarts his sentences i.e

”I think… I think that, I think that next Tuesday works.”

I was worried something is up with his brain, but then I came across others who keep doing it. It’s almost like a stutter / stammer / interruption in thought processes and people seem to do it even though no one else is verbally interrupting them.

I know someone, I know someone, I know someone who, I know someone who does this ALL THE TIME. she started it in her teens and continues doing it now in her 30s. I don't think she does it to get time to think; it seems to me it's just become a deeply ingrained habit.
But thank God I haven't heard anybody else at this - I couldn't bear it. When she starts to tell a story I feel like leaving the room.

It’s really odd. I don’t know why DH has developed this over the last year. Then I realised it’s not just him. I’ve heard several people restarting sentences now.

It seems like (ha ha) a new cultural language pattern, like everyone using like - “it’s like blue with like spots.”

I think, I think, i think we, we're like on our own here.

🤦‍♀️ you’ve got to, you’ve got to be, you’ve got to be really careful or this language affliction may stick with you too. 😂

I wish I knew more about language as there’s probably a fancy term for it.

In my last job I was on a Teams training call with someone in their 20’s who kept saying “you know,” all the time. You know I just muted the sound in the end because you know I couldn’t you know put up with it any longer you know.

I do have mild misophonia though, which may explain why I notice and feel annoyance at repetitive words.

I think anyone would be bugged by the repetition.
But it will be interesting to see if anyone else responds to your original post.

Like.😂

It could be a widespread brain thing. https://academic.oup.com/acn/article/40/1/125/7689909?login=false

I haven’t noticed that particular thing, but things like vocal fry are certainly catching and spread like wildfire among female speakers in particular, and I notice my 13 year old son using locutions he’s been exposed to by YouTubers commenting on their own gaming.
