Anyone know Latin?

We all know the phrase “Sic transit gloria mundi” - meaning "Thus passes the glory of the world."

But how would one say just "Thus passes the world"? Would that be “Sic transit mundus” or “Sic transit mundum” or what?

I think you need the dative or the ablative case

drwitch · 22/11/2021 20:32

So it would be mundo I think

2tired2bewitty · 22/11/2021 20:39

I wouldn’t worry, according to this entirely not crazy woman on TikTok, the Romans and Latin aren’t real and were invented by the Spanish Inquisition 😳😂 twitter.com/cogitoergo15?s=21

FictionalCharacter · 22/11/2021 20:42

If it’s the world that’s doing the passing, surely it would be mundus.

drwitch · 22/11/2021 20:45

Yes it's unclear, I thought it was something going past the world.

StartupRepair · 22/11/2021 20:45

Sic transit mundus.

doyouwantachuffedybadge · 22/11/2021 20:47

amo amas amat?

LarryVeest · 22/11/2021 20:49

Nominative, innit?

MsAmerica · 28/11/2021 21:43

Hm. Seems like "mundus" to me. In the original, "gloria" is the subject, so it's replaced by "mundus," the nominative.

The computer is trying to change it to "mounds."

Amo, amas , amat ,amamus amatis amant!!!!!?

Cherriesarethebest · 24/01/2022 20:18

Veni vidi vici!!!!!!

DorotheaFrazil · 24/01/2022 20:25

Nominative, so sic transit mundus.

SoManyQuestionsHere · 24/01/2022 20:29

Sic transit mundus

"Mundus" is, in fact, the subject of this sentence. It hence needs to be in nominative case.

Same as in English, as a matter of fact!

blyn72 · 24/01/2022 20:55

Sic transit mundum

Perfectlystill · 24/01/2022 21:03

@LarryVeest

Nominative, innit?
I would have thought so
SignOnTheWindow · 24/01/2022 21:09

@blyn72

Sic transit mundum
No, because 'world' needs to be the subject of (i.e. doing the action of) the verb, so nominative - mundus.
