Just how scary is it? I'm going to see it next week.

oooh one of my favourites. very scary yes! i went to see it as part of my drama GCSE many moons ago, then dragged dh to see it 5 years ago. love it. i was still scared the second time. dh wasn't scared at all!

orienteerer · 30/05/2010 19:28

It's DH's favourite play.

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:31

I can get front row seats. Should I?

OP posts:
DizzyIzzyLizzy · 30/05/2010 19:35

Yes! Yes! Yes! Brilliant play

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:36

Or will it be too scary in the front row?

OP posts:
HumphreyCobbler · 30/05/2010 19:44

The book scared me a lot.

I would sit in the middle, in between other paying punters. In fact I would sit in between my mates, just to be on the safe side

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:45

I've downloaded the version they produced for television back in the 90s. I can't decide if I should watch that first or not.

OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 30/05/2010 19:50

Oooh no, watch it in the theatre first - it has much more dramatic impact.

I saw it ten years ago and thought it was brilliant. The one scary bit I still remember after all this time.

It's fantastic honestly.

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:52

If I'm traumatised for life I'm holding you all personally responsible.

OP posts:
biddyofsuburbia · 30/05/2010 19:55

It's brilliant! So so so good! Exciting, thrilling and just the right amount of being scariness! Just like the best spooky stories when you were a child! Don't watch anything first go and have the experience - you will be fine! I felt quite exhilarated when I came out!

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:56

Odd question but are there any gunshots in it?

OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 30/05/2010 19:57

No gunshots but there is one loud noise.

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:57

What sort of noise?

I have a phobia of loud bangs. I'm terrified of balloons.

OP posts:
LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 19:59

Is that no to front row seats btw? If it's too scary being in the front row I'll go for the 6th row.

OP posts:
ttalloo · 30/05/2010 20:09

It's terrifying! Are you seeing it at the Fortune in London? If so, avoid aisle seats in the stalls if you don't want to wet yourself with fear during the second act. The book is brilliant too.

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 20:10

I'm seeing it in Glasgow but I'll avoid the aisle seats just in case.

OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 30/05/2010 20:11

Er, it's not a bang or a gunshot but i'm not going to give away the plot by saying what the loud noise is (it's over in a second though).

You will love it.

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 20:17

I'll go and book it then but not the front row.

OP posts:
ruddynorah · 30/05/2010 20:25

this thread is scaring me! do not sit on the front row fgs. sit in the middle of a row in the middle. take something to hide behind, your coat, or a large cushion will do.

enjoy

ttalloo · 30/05/2010 20:26

It's the most pleasurably frightening play you'll ever see in a theatre - I wish I could see it again.

BTW, the television film is also excellent, although very different in style to the stage version, and very, very scary (my sister and I watched it late one Christmas Eve as students and she ended up sleeping in my room that night because we were both so scared to be alone.) The theatrical experience will still be amazing if you do see the TV version first, but perhaps not quite so intense if you know what's going to happen, so I'd save the TV till after the theatre.

You are going to have such a great time.

LetThereBeRock · 30/05/2010 20:26

I've got the middle of the 6th row.

OP posts:
Exogenesis · 30/05/2010 20:34

You will have such a wonderful time. I've seen it far to may times now and i still Jump. Its amazing and your first time is the best

nymphadora · 30/05/2010 20:37

V scary. My dh loves it & took me in London , was a tiny narrow tall theatre in Covent Garden. Think that helped spook the experience.

MrsChemist · 30/05/2010 20:42

I've seen it twice and absolutely loved it both times. I would go again in a heartbeat.

The first time I saw it I was sharing a room with my mum in a hotel. I went to bed and she went to the bar with her friends. Five minutes later I decided I wasn't tired and joined them in the bar. It certainly wasn't because I was terrified in the room on my own, oh no

My mum didn't fall for the "I'm not tired" excuse for a second.

MrsChemist · 30/05/2010 20:44

I was in an aisle seat first time actually. OMG it scared the bejesus out of me

I want to see it again now!
