can anyone help me with the name of this piece by Rameau?

My parents are compiling a list of their favourite music for their Golden Wedding party. My mother is keen to find a piece by Rameau - all she can remember is that it was on an advert (for Nat West????) and it's quite 'plinky plonky' !.

Any ideas, oh wise ones?
TIA

'Plinky plonky' not 'Pinky and Perky'

Can't think of any Rameau I've heard in ads, though the fourth movement from Bach's cantata 140 Wachet auf was once used in a Lloyds' ad.

Lloyds' also used Nyman's The heart asks for pleasure first (from The Piano).

I couldn't even begin to guess which of Rameau's works it might be though!!

Can she be more specific about "plinky plonky"? Does this mean piano? harpsichord? rhythm? Is the music upbeat? or serious? etc...

Penthesileia · 12/09/2009 23:11

And how is she so sure it's Rameau?

For instance, this bit of Schubert was everywhere at one point last year; it's quite "plinky plonky", I suppose!

Oh god. This is going to drive me nuts...

Handel's "Sarabande" is often rolled out on tv for one thing or another...

Millarkie · 12/09/2009 23:20

Have you tried looking on tvadmusic.co.uk?

Penthesileia · 12/09/2009 23:26

This bit of Vivaldi was in a Channel 4 trailer a while back...

Penthesileia · 12/09/2009 23:30

Handel's Zadok the Priest gets abused all the time too...

Penthesileia · 12/09/2009 23:37

Charpentier's Te Deum is quite bouncy!

God. Why I am insisting that it isn't Rameau? How would I know what the OP's mother's thinking of? It's late, and I'm going mad...

Is it Tambourin from Hebe? It's the second piece played in this little medley of three Rameau pieces

bronze · 12/09/2009 23:56

not Rondeau des Indes Galantes? the first bit

sphil · 13/09/2009 09:52

Bronze - that's it!!! Well, it's from Les Indes Galantes anyway - I found it on i-Tunes and held the phone up to the computer. Because I was only playing the sample it didn't give the whole title - 'Air pour ...' but it's definitely the right one.
Plinky plonky was not a great descrition however - jolly, bouncy yes, but not plinky plonky

She is amazed by the power of MN btw - thank you all

I thought I was way off but glad you got it. I still can't find it connected to an advert though

sphil · 13/09/2009 11:55

No - well she was a bit hazy on that one
