I currently have my eye on
Tracey Emin
Whistler
Frida Kahlo
Vanessa Bell
Julio le Parc (All Tate in London)

Ai Weiwei - Manchester

Bridget Riley - Margate (maybe - saw the big BR exhibition at the Haywood a few years ago - will it be different works?)

Hockney - Serpentine - maybe (have seen the Normandy work at the National Gallery and in Saltaire - will it be different?)

I’m planning on going to see Tracey Emin but nothing else so far!

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 07/03/2026 15:23

Do you ever venture to Dulwich Picture Gallery? I try and get to everything they have on. I don't live nearby but I house-sit for some people in Dulwich. This - on for another few weeks - was gorgeous. 😍

Sadly Anna Ancher finishes tomorrow - I did go and it was utterly gorgeous. Such beautiful painting, and what an interesting woman!

Might pass on that - my gallery, theatre and cinema spending is getting a bit out of hand 😂

Apart from that yes to Tracey Emin, VBell, Kahlo, Whistler, also Hurvin Anderson at Tate Britain looks interesting, and the Summer Show at the RA which I always try and get to.
I spend half my life busing to London from Bristol to catch all the exhibitions!

Try and house sit during this - many fantastic artists show their work, and you can get a look inside lots of listed and architecturally wonderful houses, too! All free!

Art Basel. I love the guided tour every year. Cezanne next month at the Foundation Beyeler.

I keep up with Dulwich because of having the regular house-sitting gig and a membership to the gallery. It has had some absolute stunners over the years.
Harald Sohlberg and Escher are stand-out memories for me.
Glad you caught Anna Ancher - you're right it finishes tomorrow I just knocked a month off my mental calendar for some reason! 😂

Oh my that would be amazing but I'm not booked to sit either of those weekends. Damn!

Nomedshere · 07/03/2026 15:40

Booked Tracey Emin

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 07/03/2026 15:40

I also remember the big Bridget Riley at the Hayward. Can't see me getting to Margate though. But I do love her work, and seeing so much of it together was fascinating.

If you’re in Bristol there is a lovely looking Gwen John exhibition over the river in Cardiff that I keep eyeing enviously

I live in Cumbria and it is so difficult to get to decent exhibitions. It's at least 2 hours to Manchester and London means staying overnight.

Oh yes! But Pallant House had a big Gwen John in 2023. Which I saw. Can't help thinking it must be the same exhibition? Maybe not.

Bjorkdidit · 07/03/2026 18:26

Making Waves at York Art Gallery.

I don't know if I'll get to London this year, might try to go for the Bayeux tapestry.

Will definitely visit Salts Mill and the Yorkshire Sculpture Gallery a few times too.

mynameiscalypso · 07/03/2026 18:28

I’m ridiculously excited about the French Riviera exhibition that’s coming to the Royal Academy later this year. There’s also a huge Matisse exhibition in Paris this Spring which happily coincides with an already-planned weekend there in May so I’ve booked tickets for that.

MidnightPatrol · 07/03/2026 18:29

There is an exhibition of Henry Moore’s sculptures at Kew Gardens from May, which I have on my list - all outdoors in the gardens.

KittyMcKitty · 07/03/2026 18:29

I went to Tracey Emin today - it was very good but absolutely heaving with really long queues.

Emily Kam Kngwarry now finished at Tate M was a standout exhibition but had a v short run sadly.

Chiharu Shiota and Yin Xiuzhen at the Hayward are small but I enjoyed (been twice) and an easy tie in with the Emin.

I also enjoyed Nigerian Modernism at Tate M (saw it same time as Emily Kam Kngwarry) which is still on

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 07/03/2026 19:55

French Riviera at the RA, yes, another on my list.
Sounds delicious. 😍

I went to Chichester, too!

I suppose it must be the same collection.

@MmeWorthington I saw this mentioned on another thread yesterday. I've never been to 2 Temple Place but it's but a stone's throw from Tate M, and I've got 4 full days in London over Easter, so it's now on my list to do on the same day I go to TM.
I have a completely jam-packed 4 day schedule. Both Tates, the British Museum, the RA, this, and probably a couple others. 😂
The Gwen John at Pallant was lovely wasn't it? Might be worth a quick swing over to Cardiff even if it is the same. It's not far for me.
Have you ever been to anything at the RWA in Bristol? I think of it as our own little Tate-wannabe. 😂 It's been shaping up very well over the years and has a regular programme now of good exhibitions and an excellent Open Show (autumn/winter, not clashing with the RA on dates). Packs a lot in to a limited space, I always feel I've had a good dose of art after a visit. 🥰

I went to the Grayson Perry exhibition at RAMM, Exeter today. It was very small but is local to me, and I loved it. Not seen anything of his before. So much detail in his work that you could look at it for hours.

mynameiscalypso · 16/03/2026 18:45

I just got the email from the Tate about 2027/28 and lots of interesting bits coming in due course - particularly keen on the Monet at Tate Modern and the Tudors at Tate Britain.
