What's it like going to the National Theatre when they're filming for NT Live?

I'd like to go to Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the National Theatre next year, but the two performance dates/times that work best for me are ones where they are filming for NT Live. Has anyone been to one of these? Are the cameras distracting? Do they do any stopping and starting?

Thanks in advance.

I went to a practise screening of Follies a few years back. I was c in stalls and didnt find the cameras distracting at all, no stopping or starting.

They don't sell some seats because of camera positions in the auditorium -- that was the biggest difference. No stopping and starting at the one I've been to. I think some productions require you to sign a disclaimer that you understand you may be filmed in the audience.

Thank you both, that's really good to know 🙂

I’ve not been to the theatre during filming but have to the opera (you can’t tell). I think it’s a positive as I assume the cast will bring their A game that day, since they’re being immortalised.

Hi, I was thinking along similar lines: the chances of the "big guns" missing the performance will be close to zero and everyone will be on top form. It's booked 😃

Been to lots of plays, ballets, operas that were being filmed.

You will notice the cameras as you enter the auditorium. It is HIGHLY unlikely that you will notice them during the performance.

As PP mentioned, seats that would affect the visual line will not be sold for these performances.
