Friday night challenge: can anyone identify this music for me?

It's been bugging me for ages. It's the cliche 'romance' music, which is now often used humorously as e.g. two lovers run towards each other, or have a thunderbolt love at first sight type moment. It must have originally been used in a romantic film.

I can only remember the first few bars, but it starts with soaring violins. I have a vague suspicion that it might be by Rachmaninov, but I'm shamefully ignorant about classical music, so take that with a pinch of salt.

It might be Tschaikowsky/Romeo & Juliet?

Does piano then come in? This is famously "romantic"

AdamAnt · 16/05/2008 21:30

this might give clues, although I don't think you can listen to any of them

Will see if I can do better...

Marina · 16/05/2008 21:30

Much more likely to be Tchaikovsky!

I am rubbish at romantio-era strings music anyway

Teuch · 16/05/2008 21:31

Ah, well done!

mylovelymonster · 16/05/2008 21:37

Was thinking ofthis. Scroll to 07:45.

mylovelymonster · 16/05/2008 21:38

So which is it then? Mozart (FAB) or R&J???

AdamAnt · 16/05/2008 21:54

It was R&J (you've really made my evening!)

Mozart's PC21 is divine.

Both bring me out in goosebumps. I'm such a pussy.

mylovelymonster · 16/05/2008 22:20

this is one of my all time faves, as is Chopin Nocturne in C minor

AdamAnt · 16/05/2008 22:34
