Glyndebourne picnic question

Mumwithbaggage · 12/05/2024 23:01

Hello

Generous neighbours very kindly gave me Glyndebourne vouchers for my milestone birthday. I've only been to Christmas concerts before.

Have booked for the summer festival and an undercover picnic table. My question is this: the table's from 3 - do we set it up then and then just go back to the table at the interval rather than rushing to retrieve the picnic from the car? I'm assuming that's the case as I know lots don't travel by car. Thanks! Just trying to get back into all the things I loved doing many years ago (lots of opera, just not Glyndebourne) but am so out of touch!

Yes - set up from 3 - don't go back to the car at the interval. Glyndebourne's not the kind of place where someone will steal your picnic and its much nicer to be able to head straight out and sit down. The undercover option is sensible - if its a lovely day you could always have a drink on the lawn first.

Yes, definitely set up, enjoy a walk around the beautiful gardens perhaps, have your starter and then return at the interval for main.
Covered tables are lovely, good choice.

Have the loveliest time! I'm not going this year but it is such a special place. I drive, unload the car before the opera, get all set up. We pack up in the long interval and load the car. I either take coffee or we buy from the bar. Don't rush to join the queues in the car park!

Perfect! Thank you all for your help! I will also reverse into a parking space this time - took ages to find a gap to reverse out after the Christmas concert! Really looking forward to it!

I remember an interview on R4 with someone whose parents ran the place many years ago.

When he was younger he didnt understand why his friends didnt have Opera Houses in their garden.

He and his mates used to cause chaos by running naked through the picnickers as well!

Whereas brixton academy is, presumably?
Do you really believe that anyone who attends Glyndebourne has never broken the law (including driving offenses?)
Stereotyping alive and well

What response were you hoping for after all this time? Genuinely. I expect all sorts of Glyndebourne visitors have broken laws. But stereotyping? Stereotyping what? There was no comparison to anybody or anything. Glyndebourne is gorgeous - a really special evening. Perhaps go yourself and find out.

What do you meann 'after all this time"?
I've been to Gylndebourne twice. Once with a picnic, once eating in the cafe. So yes, I know the audience
The sterotyping in the post was the implication that Glyndebourne audiences would not steal a picnic, because it's opera, and it's Glyndebourne.

The thread was from May - over 6 months ago. It was a polite pleasant thread discussing picnicking arrangements. It is hardly stereotyping to suggest that an audience at an event in the middle of nowhere wouldn't be likely to steal a picnic or part thereof. If you go to G to see the opera, if you want to eat, you either dine there or buy/take a picnic. And you know that in advance as an audience member. Any other opera/music festival will be similar. We've left stuff out at music festivals. Never touched. Now your suggestion about other law breaking - well very possible. After all G audiences come from all over.

"After all this time" meaning the thread was posted in May and you've just randomly resurrected it 7 months later to complain about stereotyping..

I'm sorry, I hadn't noticed the age of the thread. It was in 'trendind', so I clicked onto it, and here we are!

I didn't randomly pick it. It was in 'trending'. I hadn't realised 'culture vulltures' section existed
