Appalling audience behaviour or is it me?

Watching "the Scottish play" at the RSC in Stratford last night and was very shocked at some of the entitled audience behaviour. One man's phone went off 5 times during the performance. A woman 2 rows away continually chatted about the performance with her partner then decided to stand at the front of the circle for a better view ( the ushers sat her back down eventually- she refused to say where her seat was). Then once she'd eventually shut up another woman started. This never used to happen. What's going on?

I went to see a band once, several years ago, and there were a bunch of people in a corporate box type thing drinking and talking loudly. It was really annoying, and one of the band members kept glaring at them, and then he eventually asked them to tone it down. Why bother going to something if you aren't going to watch/listen to the main event?

I went to same play about a month ago. Midweek and third of the audience were school groups...they were all great but my immediate neighbours beyond weird. Oddest was the lady behind me keep letting out great cackles of laughter and then talking to her neighbour. I tried my teacher glare but that resulted in muttered conversation of " that woman was looking at me "
Have been going to Stratford for decades and never had anything like it

This has been going on for years. I first noticed it at an early childhood education centre concert, about 10yrs ago, when a group of parents talked throughout the entire performance.

I went to see Ghosts by Ibsen a few years ago, and there were folk laughing and giggling away throughout. The play is supposed to be pretty tragic.

I've noticed behaviour has got a lot worse at theatres and gigs. It's starting to make me think twice about booking things I really want to see or are expensive in case some dickhead ruins it.
