A little life - anyone seen it?

I saw this at Richmond in a seat very close to
the front.

Just wondering if anyone else had at all. I had quite a few issues with the play itself but thought James Norton’s performance was incredible and so intense.

The play has really stayed with me - and keeps
popping into my head. The violence and the vulnerability. I’m finding it very hard to shake off.

Saw it at weekend and was just stunned by ut. Such a challenging and courageous piece of theatre. Luke Thompson was amazing and actually both he and Norton come across as seriously intelligent and they must have had to develop a lot of trust to do this. I heard Norton say in an interview that when he met Thompson he just hoped he liked him. They were on the BBC yesterday and seemed very different but equally as passionate about the play.

It will be a while before it leaves me. I was also there on one of the days they were filming it.

Reminded of this today as it’s in contention for several Whatsonstage awards. I came away from it with a major crush on Luke Thompson. Does anyone else think he should have played Jude? I’ve been watching him in several Shakespeare clips on YouTube, and although James Norton is good I think he would have gone deeper. I also think it would have been really interesting to see them alternate the two roles (like Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternated the roles in Frankenstein). James Norton is actually closer to how Willem is described in the book, so when I first heard he had been cast I thought perhaps that was who he was playing.

@MNUse - totally agree that JN would have been great as Willem. I have tickets for the WOS award night. I wonder who will be there from A Little Life.

I thought Zubin Varla as Harold was a stunning performance as well, so tender. Glad he’s been nominated for a WOS best supporting, although of course part of me wants LT to win (because he was excellent not just because I have a crush on him) - tricky!

Yes Luke Thomson was exquisite, on another level.

I didn’t particularly enjoy Zubin Varla - I always find him a little shouty/over pronounced. I also didn’t particularly feel that relationship was compelling ( could have been the script of course)

I also thought Luke Thompson was the stand out in the play ( I’ve seen him in a couple of Shakespeare previously and he was very good - he’s with the RSC in Stratford for Loves Labours Lost in April if anyone is that way!).
