Tell me what you have seen and loved, and why....

I'm thinking that because this is in 'Culture vultures' you're not really looking for the answers: Casino Royale and Daniel Craig in trunks, are you?

WowOoo · 01/02/2008 20:17

Will be watching this as need to update my amazon DVD rental list! I loved OLDboy, it's a Korean revenge film. Bit violent for my liking but with loads of good bits and fab twist at end. Liked Volver saw that again the other night. Saw This is England the other night - quite harrowing, good soundtrack.

WowOoo · 01/02/2008 20:17

Oh Bourne Ultimatum was great (once Dh had paused to explain what the feck was going on!!)

luckylady74 · 01/02/2008 20:21

The Last King Of Scotland - I loved the anti hero nature of James Mcavoy's character andi thought forest Whittakker conveyed brilliantly how such a mad man could be a charismatic leader. The final scenes are brutal but not gratuitous. The sound track was really good too.
Little Miss Sunshine - made me laugh and laugh till i cried and then texted my friends to go and see it.

FrayedKnot · 01/02/2008 20:26

Umm...not really, Jackie

DH and I have barely watched anything in the last few years, and we are about to join Lovefilm, but I don;t know where to start!

And no, action films are not really very high on my list, nor anything violent, or anything too corny...

wowooo have you seen lady vengeance?

barking · 01/02/2008 20:37

another vote for 'little miss sunshine'
i joined a amazon a while ago and watched the whole run of 'six feet under' completely brilliant, one of the best pieces of tv ever.

saadia · 01/02/2008 20:43

oooooh we've joined Lovefilm and have enjoyed among others:

The Illusionist - has a fairytale quality, beautifully filmed and an absorbing plot.

The Departed - bit violent (Scorcese film), but some witty lines and great acting particularly by Leonardo di Caprio. Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon are also very good.

Amores Perros - Really shocking and disturbing but shows you another world - several interconnected stories. Unusual.

Syriana - Very thought-provoking, depressing as it is about political realities.

The Painted Veil - Unusual love story, brill performances from Edward Norton and Naomi Watts.

21 grams - Bit like Amores Perros - bit depressing but very moving.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/02/2008 20:43

V for Vendetta - slick, fabulous lines, thought-provoking, different.

Bourne Ultimatum - fast with great stunts and I would do him even though he looks like a friend of mine. Prefer the first film though.

saadia · 01/02/2008 20:44

just noticed you don't want anything violent - rules out much of what I suggested .

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/02/2008 20:47

Oh yes, non violent. Better ignore mine too!

saadia · 01/02/2008 20:49

What I sometimes do is think of a film I liked, and try to find films by the same director as sometimes my mind just goes blank when trying to choose films for our list.

Maidamess · 01/02/2008 20:52

Was 'Sideways' more than two years ago? That is a cracking film. I love it.

ViolentFemme · 01/02/2008 20:54

Pan's Labyrinth - fab story and effects

(Luckylady74, read the book of Last King in Scotland - is even better than the movie - and you'll have a picture of the yummy James McAvoy in your head the whole time!)

georgedontdothat · 01/02/2008 20:55

Little Miss Sunshine (although dp hated it)
because I just loved the dance scene at the end .

Confetti -thought it would be tosh but made us laugh and the wedding planners were great

barking · 01/02/2008 20:59

i've rented a few stand up comedy things - loved:
dylan moran 'how do you want me?'
'russell brand live'
;robin williams broadway'
billy connolly always good (apart from his last one)

oh and casino royale was fantastic - dh's choice, i was determined not to enjoy it but it was such a surprise dare i say intelligent take on bond.

blueshoes · 01/02/2008 21:11

expatinscotland · 01/02/2008 21:12
