well, it's culture to ME alright

Have just read this on her website (yes, pretty sad, but life is dull for some of us)

"One thrilling bit of news is that ITV have bought my romantic novel Octavia. Written in the late seventies, and subtitled The Taming of a Shrew, it follows the fortunes of a very glamorous rich bitch, who sets out to pinch her friend?s boyfriend.

I?m really excited about this because it is being made by a wonderful and enterprising television company called Touchpaper, part of the RDF Media Group. and the script writer is Jonathan Harvey who wrote Gimme, Gimme, Gimme so I think we?re all going to have huge fun. If Octavia works, with any luck the rest of my romantic novels might be made into films too, which would be lovely. I?ll keep you posted".

I think this would be pretty cool, especially if they keep them all still set in 70s. My favourite is Prudence, would LOVE to see a film of that

Mmmm yummy Rupert Penry-Jones, good call but obviously not quite Rupert. Handily married to/ living with the insanely gorgeous CBeebies regular Dirvla Kirwan, who would a fab match for Taggie except for age.

choosyfloosy · 02/10/2007 23:14

Clive Owen. I think he woudl probably pay money not to do it, but I think he is the only one I can imagine in the role.

tribpot · 02/10/2007 23:15

Clive Owen too dark. Rupert is a blond. Clive Owen (younger) and with a dye job?

bubblerock · 02/10/2007 23:40

I have never read any of her books but have been on the front page of a Glos newspaper with her and the heading was 'young fans meet Jilly' or something similar - me and a mate, aged about 13, had nipped into Boots to use the Loo and she was in there doing a book signing, we had never heard of her and this reporter grabbed us and took our picture standing with her! (I still have the clipping ), she was very nice.

MrsJohnCusack · 03/10/2007 00:05

ooooh this is fun
my sister had some dealings with JC when she worked at her publisher. v.nice and exactly as you'd imagine by all accounts

am loving the Imogen quotes. Do remember how a well cut bikini suddenly made her look much thinner, not sure how

Am thinking Clive Owen might make a good Ace, from Prudence. Rupert Penry-Jones should be case as someone not sure who yet.

I was thinking Rupert P-J as Pendle.

WideWebWitch · 03/10/2007 08:08

I can't think of anyone who is good looking and charismatic enough to play Rupert Campbell-Black.

MrsJohnCusack · 03/10/2007 09:25

I'm not sure a worthy candidate to play Rupert C-B exists TBH

I was thinking that for Pendle Jackie - except Pendle is really humourless, could the rather charismatic Rupert P-J do that I wonder?

Who could be Octavia? Am liking Philip Glenister as Gavin.

OP posts:
witchandchips · 03/10/2007 09:45

Jack Davenport could do Pendle, i'm thinking

MrsJohnCusack · 03/10/2007 09:52

I mean Gareth, obviously

yes, Jack Davenport might do

shame that they're doing Octavia first, I'm MUCH more interested in casting Prudence.

we need a humourless American for Bernice

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingletomb · 03/10/2007 10:09

oh yes,Jack Davenport for Pendle
what about Marina ?
please, please, please - more snippets from Imogen !!!

witchandchips · 03/10/2007 10:12

could Amanda Holden do octavia?

witchandchips · 03/10/2007 10:15

member the bit where Cable puts on an olive green t shirt (that brings out the glint in her eyes or some such rubbish) that says "I'm still a virgin".
`guess i should give this to imogen, she's the only one qualified to wear it' - class bitchiness!

or when yvonne tells tracey (pneumatic bimbo that appears later) that she could not do topless work and tracey says
"Well i used to be flat as a board like you but my boss told me to get some new tits. Haven't look back since!"

MrsJohnCusack · 03/10/2007 10:21

"As a librarian, Imogen read a lot of books, but none of them covered real life on the Riveria"

think that was on the cover

OP posts:
MrsJohnCusack · 03/10/2007 10:23

and Imogen writes obscenities on Yvonne's car with a lipstick

(JC did this herself to someone when she lived in Putney...useless fact)

witchandchips · 03/10/2007 10:23

..a yorkshire rose amongst thorny model girls cable and yvonne..

MaryAnnSingletomb · 03/10/2007 10:46

oh,this is fab !!

MrsJohnCusack · 03/10/2007 10:54

I have to go to bed but will dig out Imogen tomorrow
have found Harriet andEmily so far

oh and the short story book was called 'Lisa & Co'

remember pink and eager James in his shorts and his 'I says'
and the vicar father
and Nicky being in barnstorming form, getting to the ball with so much time to spare he could examine it for bugs

marvellous

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingletomb · 03/10/2007 10:56

that was it, 'Lisa & Co ' !!

MaryAnnSingletomb · 03/10/2007 13:25
