Are you taking the dcs to the theatre / panto this Christmas?

I want to take dd1 and god-dd to the theatre around Christmas time. So far I'm considering The BFG at the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon or Marianne Dreams at the Almeida in Islington (but that might be a bit grown up - they're 5 and 6).

Is anyone else thinking about doing this? Do you have any recommendations? Anywhere in Greater London is fine - though it would also be interesting to know where the good pantos are nationwide.

I'm taking 25 Guides and 10 Rainbows to see Snow White in Dartford! We go every year and it is always fantastic. The production is usually by Jim Davidson, and although he's had a bit of a pasting on here this week, his pantos are always amazing! I'm not sure, who's in it this year yet, I will go in search right now!

Ooh, its Wendi Peters, Cilla off Corrie, as the wicked witch! Snow White is someone from CiTV. Should be a good one!

Stratford theatre Royal East always has something fun.

Yes, we'll be going to the 17th century stables at the Château de Chantilly where there is a Christmas show on horseback. Last year they did Cinderella and it was exquisite and so romantic... I highly recommend it. It's within the Musée Vivant du Cheval for anyone who wants to look it up.

We are taking ds (8) and dd (4) to Peter Pan.
We got the tickets via the PTA so they are discounted, and there will be other people there from school, so should be fun!

We saw The Snowman a couple of years ago and were very disappointed. It was not the quality of production you normally see in the west end. It was expensive too.

DD1 goes with school which is a lovely idea.

Theatre Royal in Windsor was good last year (Snow White) - it's quite a small venue, so the children wern't overwhelmed by the occasion. Traditional panto, starring one of the 'Maria' TV show finalists. VV good.
Easy to get to by train from Waterloo.

Going to see the 'Sound of music' in London for my ds birthday. Also Peter Pan on ice in Cambridge and the local am dram production of 'Babes in the wood' Also might go along to the winter wonderland in Hyde park. There is an ice skating rink, market stalls and crafty stalls.

We've just had our Christmas treat. Took the DDs to see English National Ballet doing The Snow Queen as they are touring it now, before they do it in London at Christmas.
It was absolutely magical - it's an entirely new ballet based on the Hans Christian Anderson story and using music that Prokofiev wrote for a different ballet that never caught on.

christywhisty · 27/10/2007 13:14

We are going to see Peter Pan at Bromley as well. Can't help getting a little bit excited at seen Starsky in the flesh even if he is 64 now!

islandofsodor · 28/10/2007 12:23

We will probably be going to see Cinderella at The regent in Stoke, my dd's ex dance teacher is in it. We may also go to Buxton Opera House too as a couple of dh's students are in that.

Gobbledispook · 28/10/2007 12:25

Going to see Dick Whittington at The Lowry in Salford.

Wish I'd seen the ad for Cinderella at the Opera House first as that looks better.

wheelybug · 28/10/2007 12:28

We're going to snow white at wimbledon theatre. My parents are taking me, DH, Bro, SIL and the 3 grandchildren (3, almost 3 and 18 months.....). It could be interesting

wheelybug · 28/10/2007 12:30

DH is quite bemused by it all. I grew up being taken to the panto every year and my parents have decided to resurrect it with grandchildren. I'm not sure DH has ever been so is a bit .

I think we're really going for my parents.... the children are just an excuse

doddle · 28/10/2007 12:30

Dick Whittington at the Hackney Empire. We go every year. It's a proper old fashioned panto, with all the required elements.
