I have finished the Time Travellers wife, which I thought I was going to hate but i LOVED.

David Mitchells Black Swan Green (perfect for those born late 60s early 70s)

Anyone else read anything good?

I have just started reading "Restless" by William Boyd. Only a few chapters in, but it's already caught my imagination.

Ihave just finished (shilst on holiday) The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim somebody (Edwards?)

It was very good.

I also read a book by Judy Astley called Blowing It which was so so, light reading, no substance to it at all. I only got it because it was one of the 3 for offers in the bookshop.

I enjoyed - A spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
Also if you like murder/mystery type things you cannot beat PJ Tracy (they are a mother/daughter writing team but don't let that put you off ) Their books are brilliant, easy to read but not facile and unputtadownable!

I have read Memory Keeper's daughter which was OK, but a tad dark and depressing for me.

Just read Getting rid of Matthew by Jane Fallon which is a good read - I enjoyed that.

Aefondkiss · 29/08/2007 13:14

I read "the other side of th bridge" by sue lawson(I think) it was good for a holiday read

Countingthegreyhairs · 29/08/2007 13:16

I'm half way through Paul Auster's "Moon Palace". Many people don't like it, but I can't wait to get in to bed at night to read the next chunk ...

QueenofBleach · 29/08/2007 14:06

Interpretation of Murder is not bad, Lbyrinth it was my second time starting and only read because of Book Club, really enjoying the Book thief

Ok - a summer holiday spent ill has meant I have had more reading time than usual. I don't normally manage this much.
Half of a yellow sun - which is FANTASTIc and which i blether about on another thread
then her earlier one purple hibiscus, not quite as good but still extraordinary
Snow by Orhan Pamuk - incredible, mind expanding, beautiful, quiet, disturbing book.
Dracula - what a great, camp, fantastic book that is
The old man and the sea - the best short story ever. I defy anyone who says otherwise.
Evelyn Waugh - Handful of Dust - was OK but I guess the satire lost on me really. Funny though.
REading more Hemingway now - ACross the river and into the trees god I love his writing.
George Orwell essays - I love these. Reading them is like having a really really intelligent, bitchy, compassionate, funny, incisive friend around for dinner.

The Pursuit of Love - Nancy Mitford - again. It's so brilliant. The Joy Luck Club - finally, I know everyone else read it years ago.

HollyGoHeavily · 31/08/2007 10:17

I've just finished 'One Good Turn' by Kate Atkinson which was great - intelligent but very readable.
