This is a long shot, but does anyone have a copy of Lorca's Blood Wedding handy?

There's a quote in the final scene (I think), after the blood bath where the fiance is killed, & the lover etc etc. The bride (I think it's her) says something like "even if I were old and even if blah blah blah, and even if blah blah blah, I would still go with him." (She's referring to her lover, and the passion she feels for her lover, who is now dead).

Sorry to be so vague.

If anyone has a copy, could you please please write down that quote for me in Spanish (if you have a bilingual edition) and also English? If not, either language will do.

It's a very strange request (I need it for work) and I'll be amazed if someone comes through.

Tutter · 20/08/2007 18:21

heck that takes me back - did it for a level

Tutter · 20/08/2007 18:21

that's A level

Othersideofthechannel · 20/08/2007 18:22

I studied this for A level but haven't got my copy any more (have been rooting through boxes for you) but Spanish is rusty now.

Hopefully someone Spanish could find you the right bit if you can't manage alone. Perhaps post in bilingualism?

You people are AMAZING. I returned to this thread 100% certain there'd be no response, but this is proof that mumsnet is all things for all mums.

Thanks othersideofthechannel to you in particular for rooting thru boxes! And thanks for finding it in Spanish. I've loads of spanish-speakers in the family; getting it translated should be a doddle.

yeah, I studied it too, in high school in America, and I just don't know where the heck I put it. . .it must have just got lost over the years.

Califrau that story is CLASSIC

thank you thank you thank you

Just noticed this and happen to have the English version to hand.
Do you want the bit that goes:

"Your son was my destiny and I have not betrayed him, but the other one's arm dragged me along like the pull of the sea, like the head toss of a mule, and he would have dragged me always, always, always - even if I were an old woman and all your son's sons held me by my hair!"

(Penguin Modern Classics, Three Tragedies. Trans. James Graham-Lujan and Richard L. O'Connell, 1945.

I used to do am-dram in the days before DSs and we did this once. I was the betrayed wife. We were dire.

SixKindsofCrisis · 21/08/2007 00:03

Great! . Was good to look at the text. Heady stuff!!

Othersideofthechannel · 21/08/2007 03:31

OK, the son of son's bit has enabled me to identify the relevant part in Spanish:

¡Tu hijo era mi fin y yo no lo he engañado, pero el brazo del otro me arrastró como un golpe de mar, como la cabezada de un mulo, y me hubiera arrastrado siempre, siempre, siempre, siempre, aunque hubiera sido vieja y todos los hijos de tu hijo me hubiesen agarrado de los cabellos!

PrincessGoodLife · 21/08/2007 07:23

got a spanish edition next to me if you want me to find it - just let me know. I'm around all day today.

Xanthipi · 21/08/2007 08:41

Thanks, princess, but othersideofthechannel seems to have provided it for me.

(othersideofthechannel: Don't know if you saw my BIG thanks several posts down.)

Yes, I did. The rooting through boxes wasn't entirely for you though. Your post made me want to reread the play.

Othersideofthechannel · 21/08/2007 11:58

So thanks to you too!
