booster seats for kids in theatres/cinemas

When I took my 4 year old daughter to the Peacock in London last year they hired out inflatable booster seats for kids - basically a thick square pad, the size of a theatre seat which puts the average 3-7 year old at the same eye-level as a (short) adult. These were really great, but I haven't found another theatre that offers this and I can't find them anywhere to buy (except one apparently defunct American website). The Peacock were very helpful, and directed me to their supplier, but they only sell in bulk (200 plus). Anyone have any other ideas? They really are a godsend if you have a small child, especially if they like the sort of thing that attracts a lot of adults, like the ballet in our case.

I thought all cinemas (certainly newer ones) had these anyway (but plastic). Perhaps start a campaign for theatres to do likewise?

I thought most had them aswell nowdays usually stacked in corridor on the way in.

When my kids were small and I took them to 'children's shows' at the theatre, there were always booster seats available. Haven't ever seen them in the cinema, even though our cinema is a modern one. Can't you just use your booster seats from the car?

They had them when I went to see Mary Poppins last year at the Prince Edward. They were precious about giving them out though!

Whenever we took DS to Theatres in West End he had a booster seat

Just ask the usher or at the cloakroom - where you can leave coats and bags etc.

They havew usually been red foam cushions

In local cinema they are coloured plastic shell boosters at the back where you 1st go in - just collect one as you pass

Thanks for this everyone - but I think London must be different to Manchester, where we live. I'll keep looking though!

My Dh tried to take in a car booster seat and was told no it was a fire hazard , he explained that all the new cinemas had boosters but no, can't remember which one that was.

We go to a big Cineworld that has them, alternatively you fold up you jacket and zip inside DC's jacket to form a cushion, tuck under arms and tada a booster seat that doesn't colapse.

Hello there, do you happen to remember the name of the manufacturer? Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Lots of cinemas have them and I'm not ashamed to say I've used them myself. I have a growth/skeletal issue so can't see over anyone other than children so either need to use them or buy really expensive theater tickets where theres no one sitting in front of me.

I’m oop north and I’ve seen plastic ones and cushiony ones used in theatres/cinemas.

Sueaxlbrick · 01/06/2020 08:53

How about using an inflatable car booster seat like the Bubblebum? Or would it be too small?

TrashKitten10 · 01/06/2020 13:37

This thread is 13 years old so hopefully her now 17 year old no longer requires a booster cushion :)
