West End Theatre tickets - October half term - will I be able to get them on the day?

We're coming to London for October half term; I know this is "high season" for theatres.

I haven't been to the West End for at least 10 years, and am bit shocked by the prices.

What are my chances of getting 4 tickets for "something big*" at the Half price Ticket Booth in the middle of Leicester Square on
the day?

*I mean Phantom, Les Mis, Lion King, or Sound of Music.

I don't mind sitting anywhere - the boys have sat in the best seats in other theatres, and I think it would be character building to be in the cheap seats!

Cant answer about availability, sorry except that sometimes the actual theatres have some returns on the day.

We went to see The Lion King during the summer holidays a few years ago and they had a notice up offering tickets for that evening's preformance.

Sometimes restricted views are well worth going for. I had restricted view seats for Billy Elliott and they were £25 instread of over £40. It was actually a little box with chairs like posh dinning room chairs so we could more them around and we had loads of space and no-one around to see if we kicked our shoes off. The restriction was mild and didnt spoil it at all.

HTH

Thanks.

It appears dh is keen to book in advance - he's even less laidback than I am But I guess it makes sense when we only have 3 full days in London we don't want to spend a long time traipsing round after tickets.

You could also try the Criterion theatre in Picadilly circus. I have bought some returned tickets for numerous shows over the years from there. Discountedtheatre.com is good if you want to book ahead. Try theatremonkey.com for seating plans and reviews.

You won't get Lion King at the booth, only at the theatre itself.

roisin · 05/08/2007 09:16

Why is that Ladymuck? Does the ticketbooth only handle certain cinemas.

We went to Sound of Music last week and were up in the gods, but we could see fine. Dds liked the little binoculars!! Still cost 105 quid though!

Fantstic show btw.

The ticketbooth handles most theatres but not the Lycaeum. This page tells you what tickets are available today (or yesterday as it is closed today I think). Probably not a bad indication of what it might be like for October given that this is also peak holiday season.

£105 for how many tickets batey?

I would try lastminute.com We have had some really good bargains from there, especially their meal and theatre deals.
