Elgar is great

Elgar Cello concerto is a fave of mine (being a cellist), and his violin sonata is wonderful.

Had this at the signing of the register at my wedding. It's one of our favourites - reminds us of England (the good things!). Never fails to send shivers down the spine and tears to the eyes.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 26/07/2007 12:41

just thinking that...
Boris Johnson chose this for one of his Desert Island Discs and I was listening to it in the bath thinking tsk that's a bit obvious Boris, what a cliche....
then, the next second....

IntergalacticWalrus · 27/07/2007 10:22

I woked with an orchestra that played this (as part of one of those cheesy seasons, oike a mini proms or "Myusic of Britain" or something) and half the orchstra were sobbing by the end. (Not me. I'm hatrd as nails)

I wasn't hard as nails when I sang in Mahler 8 though. Now that's a real tear jerker.

MrsJohnCusack · 27/07/2007 10:34

we did this in the concert I was in that Jura came to see

always a tearjerker but my favourite bit of the Enigma is the v.quiet clarinet solo which is a quotation from a Mendelssohn piece

it is SWOONY
in fact teh whole thing is about my favourire to play the clarinet in

My first mumsnetter was Chonky but then we were best friends at junior school
first 'stranger' from here was Twentypence

yes it was about 6 weeks I think
thank you . Actually every time I think of it I fume as no playing here. I am even thinking of taking up the oboe for a change (and there'd be more playing available).

harpsichordcarrier · 29/07/2007 00:46

why no playing mrs JC
glut of clarinet players?

not much playing to be done
auditioned for local pro orchestra 3 days before my due date - BIG mistake, couldn't really play
and as it turns out I could have waited as they extended the closing date - and keep extending it further - but at the moment won't let me reaudition

am about to relaunch assault on them and ask to reaudition
apart from that, I'm sure I'll cobble something together eventually, but it's orchestral playing I really want

MrsJohnCusack · 29/07/2007 01:16

ah there she is!
