everyone has a story to tell?

charliegal · 16/05/2007 14:31

voyeurism, unfortunately.
plus a winning formula.

nailpolish · 16/05/2007 14:32

im glad you asked this

i walked past a bookshop the other day and saw one "Please Daddy, NO" i didnt see the author
on the front was a picture of a small boy eyes red from crying, tears welling up
i have no idea how people can read such heartwrenching and sad stories
my aunt has PILES of them in her house

mosschops30 · 16/05/2007 14:35

I read a Child Called It when it first came out which now seems to have opened the flood gates for this type of story.

I wouldnt read any of them now, its too depressing and they all follow the same formula

ChocolateFace · 16/05/2007 14:35

Why do people want to entertain themselves with other peoples horrendous childhoods? I don't get it.

nailpolish · 16/05/2007 14:41

i just could nt imagine being attracted to a book called "Please Daddy, NO"
picking it up thinking "oh that looks good"

nothing against the author, im sure it has helped with therapy etc, but i culdnt get it out of my head, and id only seen the cover

foxinsocks · 16/05/2007 14:42

cor, I'm not even sure they help for therapeutic purposes

just icky

deestingsduznotappen · 16/05/2007 14:46

Everywhere - woolies, whs, tescos etc etc! Obviously there must be demand for these books, but why?

np, I saw that one too - really made my skin crawl, it's got to be the worst 'f*cked up childhood lit' title out there...

don't get it at all

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/05/2007 14:50

Pruni started a thread about this last week - apparently there is a special category in WHS now called 'Tragic life story'

As Nailpolish says, nothing against the author, but I don't see how a publisher who sees pound signs in their eyes while producing a title like 'Please Daddy no' can live with themselves.

deestingsduznotappen · 16/05/2007 14:52

Maybe I'll post a question asking if anyone has read it, and why they were attracted to it, - but look at the others, - they all seem to be about abused kids too - over 50%!!!
