I've not seen it myself but I had a look on the website and I understand it was first performed in a secondary school. What is the content like?

If you have seen it what age do you think it would be acceptable for?
Thanks!!

What are you doing on here? Are you not sitting in the waiting room?

Anyway, I've seen it a couple of times. The content is quite adult, or at very youngest older teenager.

About how a mother keeps her family together as they all grow older and the lure of the bad world tries to get them in its grip!

Twas pretty depressing tbh!

DD1 has been asked to play the part of Mrs Johnson.
Thought I'd better get my facts straight before I blow my top!!
Sent DH to sit in the waiting room while I do my research. Tried to call you as it goes!!!

I loved Blood Brothers - have seen it a few times. Tells the story of poor lone mother forced to separate het twins. One is rich, the other has a harder upbringing with his mum - falls into crime. Sad ending.

Mears - it isn't really appropriate for an 8yo to play Mrs Johnson is it?

Or am I just being old fashioned?

islandofsodor · 12/05/2007 22:10

It is a fantastic play. I think there may be a bit of mild swearing in it. I would say upper secondary age. It is sometimes set as a GCSE text.

Found the script in her bag and I have decided it is not appropriate for her to play the part of Mrs Johnson!

Quite fancy going to see it myself though!

Is she 8 years old? I would not say that is appropriate at all!

spudmasher · 13/05/2007 12:30

It's not is it. I am really glad I took the time to research this!
She would have been playing the part of a pregnant woman who was going to give one of her unborn twins to another woman to bring up.
She really does not need to know about that yet!

I will be phoning on Monday!!

I saw it at 13 with school and was totally bowled over by it, can still remember all the songs and has every word memorised (after hearing once- AS tendencioes at their best )

But 8? No.

We did Annie and Joseph at that age (I was abrred from playing Annie and I still hold a grudge LOL_ it was coz I had to care for a sick friend and missed the audtions, nobody who did amke it could sing so they offered out of school- I would have ahd thepart of I hadnt been so nice.....)

PMSL at my 23 year old grudge

lou33 · 13/05/2007 12:53

dd1 saw it at 14 as part of her school work

tigerschick · 13/05/2007 12:57

I read it at about 12 and then saw it at about 14. There is no way that it is appropriate for an 8yo.

It is quite harrowing and there is some swearing in it. I certainly would complain.

BTW - I absolutely love the play when done well.
