Think Merchant Ivory movies

though strictly speaking it's any time before 1947

why do you ask, my dear?

I was thinking more The Jewel in the Crown and Heat and Dust JackieNo!

So, thirties, beety, with older people clinging resolutely to their topees and ankle length skirts

1857-1947 (from the Indian Mutiny when the British Government finally took over from the E India Company to idependence. For fashion think late Victorian/Edwardian and 20s and 30s.

I am going to set Much Ado in colonial Indian era. But was hoping it was 20's/30's so the young girls could be flapperish!

I watched Passage to India - what a great book - not such a good film but beautiful and so so sad!
