Had it on vinyl donkey's years ago but haven't had a turntable for years - finally replaced it on CD and my word, how could I have forgotten how fabulous it is?

I can't help wondering, though, how many MNers have never heard of Carole King ...

I have and Tapestry is ace.

My kids adore Don McLean and discuss the merits and demerits of different versions of American Pie with each other. They also like Dory Previn. Brainwashing by DW.

kittypants · 20/04/2007 12:33

i love carole king but am huge fan of james taylor!going to see him on monday!

WigWamBam · 20/04/2007 12:37

Brainwashing in this house includes dd thinking that Joe Jackson is the hottest thing in music.

Brainwashing by dh, unfortunately, has her groving along to Hotel California and Dark Side of the Moon.

Being stuck in a musical time warp has it's drawbacks ...

I'm trying to get DS to listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers Band...

WigWamBam · 20/04/2007 13:04

Dh won't allow dd to listen to my Leonard Cohen.

Dd has at least some sense and won't even consider listening to dh's Jethro Tull or Golden Earring.

And what is wrong with Radar Love?

WigWamBam · 20/04/2007 13:10

Erm ... have you heard the rest of their stuff?

Not much right with it, never mind what's wrong with it ...

I didn't know there was anything else....

I was amazed at the weekend. DD wanted to listen to 'something good' on my Ipod. I suggested "Horse with no name" - and DS immediately agreed. He said "It is X's favourite song". X is 13. Apparently he had come across it on YouTube.

WigWamBam · 20/04/2007 13:29

Dh has a couple of their albums. Radar Love is the only half-decent thing on them.

13 year olds with taste ... see, all is not lost!

Carly Simon (or is she too naff)? You're so Vain and Nobody does it better etc.

WigWamBam · 21/04/2007 17:24

Carly Simon was good.

Dd was boogeying along to the Clash this morning ... can't be bad

For years and years (until quite recently), I thought her name was Carole King-Tapestry . And I'm old enough to know better.

Fantastic LP though ... Wigwam, was it Leonard Cohen who wrote that fantastic lyric, 'the piano has been drinking, not me?'

WigWamBam · 21/04/2007 17:30

Was it Leonard Cohen, or was that Tom Waites?

OP posts:
WigWamBam · 21/04/2007 17:33

It was Tom Waites, on Small Change.

The piano has been drinking, my necktie is asleep
And the combo went back to New York, the jukebox has to take a leak
And the carpet needs a haircut, and the spotlight looks like a prison break
And the telephone's out of cigarettes, and the balcony is on the make
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking...

And the menus are all freezing, and the light man's blind in one eye
And he can't see out of the other
And the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid, and he showed up with his mother
And the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking

As the bouncer is a sumo wrestler cream-puff casper milktoast
And the owner is a mental midget with the IQ of a fence post
'cause the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking...

And you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter
And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without
her
And the box-office is drooling, and the bar stools are on fire
And the newspapers were fooling, and the ash-trays have retired
because the piano has been drinking, the piano has been drinking
The piano has been drinking, not me, not me, not me, not me, not me...

Ah, Wigwam, you've made my day!!! I always get my Tom Waites and me Leonards mixed up. Did you know, incidentally, that Tom Waites is the brother of the father in The Waltons?

WigWamBam · 21/04/2007 18:22

No, I didn't!

The mind boggles ...

We had Tapestry on the first time my sil came to ours for dinner - couldn't believe she'd never heard of CK!!!

She was only 22 but still...

WigWamBam · 21/04/2007 19:11

Being 22 is no excuse ...

It hasn't aged either, has it - still sounds really fresh.
