Louis Theroux - America's most hated family - Anyone see this last night?

Anyone see this? How bizarre was it to see such unhinged views expressed so nonchalantly??? This family are so extreme in what they beleive that they appear to have alienated and offended the whole of their country, and that's gotta be pretty hard to do! It was even more unbelievable to see how their youngest children were being brainwashed to say things they obviously didn't understand. Most shocking of all was that Louis Theroux actually stood up to their ridiculous comments with sustained logical arguments instead of going along with it for the sake of the show, a change of tact I think he should definitely stick with. As a result, I'm actually starting to find him quite sexy Is it just me???

I guess that's true, but it just was very frustrating to watch these obsessives utterly fail to engage in any discussion.

FlossALump · 02/04/2007 11:26

I watched it. I think the great irony is that if there is a heaven and a hell then they for certain are heading south.

if you care to watch Jeremy Kyle or Tyra Banks (which I do not) you can see Jerry Springer rubbish like that any day of the week

An easy target for Louis and not worthy of a whole hours programme IMO

Does Jesus even ever talk about 'hell'? Which they seemed to be obsessed with?

Maybe he did but I can't recall.

They seemed to ignore the whole love your neighbour and don't judge others message.

They seemed to be basing all arguments on selective old teatament quotes. Did they mention Jesus at all?

I found them pretty sick, but not frightening, they were too moronic to be frightening.

watched this programme last night did louis not state that the leader had 13 children of which 4 had fallen away from the cause i found this programme shocking but interesting to bring your children up with such poison and denying them a normal life with different learning curves! is very sad as for the funeral picketing they should be jailed

Psycho · 02/04/2007 11:31

It would have been interesting if he had interviewed the ones who had 'fallen away'?

I wonder why he couldn't?

singersgirl · 02/04/2007 11:33

I wondered that, too, Psycho.

BizzyDint · 02/04/2007 11:33

yes that would have added a bit more to the programme psycho. wonder why he didn't track them down.

anorak · 02/04/2007 11:39

I was just thinking about that, too. I guess if I were one of the ones who had fallen away I would want to disassociate myself with it all.

Well I am obiously going to hell then-good job as I won't know any of the 70 who are convinced they are "going up"

Judy1234 · 02/04/2007 12:05

I think the Pope got into trouble 2 weeks ago for going on about Hell and his PR people had to issue a press release that he hadn't meant what he'd said.

76 % of Americans are Christian. Most Christians don't believe gays go to hell. Many think those who practise gay sex might have bit of a difficulty - the C of E wrestles with this all the time every time a gay vicar moves his lover in. But although bits of the US are indeed very mixed and thanks to the hispanics we have gentler nicer Catholic views there remain a huge core of bigots.
