It's that time of year again, I see the Glastonbury line up and pester DH that we should go... with 3 year old terror... Then, as it comes to booking the tickets, I get a sense of realism.

Not sure if this is too lowbrow for the Culture section, but any got good ideas for more manageable family festivals this summer ?

Lots of people like the Big Chill at Eastnor Castle (TeeCee has been, hopefully she'll see this) and Cambridge is supposed to be v. family friendly.
And there is one at Cornbury?
Not that I ever get to the sodding things, I just read about them in Word magazine

You went to Donington jura
Was that a Monsters of Rock event as presented by Radio 1 jock Sir Thomas of Vance?

foxinsocks · 29/03/2007 12:15

We used to go to Reading but I could have sworn it was more of a folk festival type thing than what it is now (or maybe I'm remembering it wrong).

I looked at Reading but didn't think it looked v family friendly.

big chill thread

From what you said in your OP, it might suit you. It is definitely more manageable if you are having doubts about a larger festi.

OMG! Aerie Faerie Nonsense! Dee Snyder! Ronnie James Dio!
I never quite had the guts to succumb to my guilty love for heavy metal jura - surrounded by punks at school and elsewhere, and liking new wave too, I felt something had to be surrendered.
And by the time I met lots of rock-loving public schoolboys at university the rot had set in and I used to make them listen to interminable Depeche Mode and Teardrop Explodes remixes
So have you seen Tenacious D and the Pick of Doom yet?

PavlovtheCat · 29/03/2007 12:52

Beautful days is usually great, it is in August. Line up not confirmed this year

ShowOfHands · 29/03/2007 12:54

I go to Cambridge every year- line-up just announced, tickets on sale May 6th. It is extremely friendly, welcomes families and is the highlight of my year. Will be doing it this year with baby for the very first time.

MegaLegs · 29/03/2007 12:55

We were going to do larmartree but the kids' tickets sold out really quickly so we missed the boat this year.

filthymindedvixen · 30/03/2007 17:54

ShowOfHands · 30/03/2007 18:43

Tee hee. They're playing Cambridge too!

Have you got BD tickets yet? Noticed they were on sale this morning!

filthymindedvixen · 30/03/2007 18:47

oohhhh yessss!!

I was one of the saddos who bought them on the first day they were available. Only, you understand, because the dear children would have been devastated if we'd missed out. Festivals are their new bestest thing. DS1 loves playing the old festy veteran to his festival-virgin pals (what , with a grand total of, erm TWO under his little belt so far

We are treating it as our main family holiday this year. Booty Days in campervan, followed by two or 3 days with some fellow festival-goers who happen to now live in Penzance, followed by a couple of days (hopefully) camping in Cornwall before that long, hard trog back north up the motorway...

Tigana · 02/04/2007 15:54

Missed this 1st time round...don't get to MN as much as I used to thanks to work crack down.
How about Maker festival in Cornwall?...last weekend in July, small, friendly festival. Mix of music, 2-3 stages. Crafty activities during the day for children. Camping, with seperate "family" camping area. Walking distance to the beach ( not a short walk, but still do-able)and 2 cart horses towing the recycling wagon around..irresistable! . Tickets not available yet. There is a Myspace website I think

Flamesparrow · 02/04/2007 15:59

Registered for glast... no money to actually get the tickets though

I was sooooooooooo looking forward to it

brightwell · 03/04/2007 12:55

Showofhands, they're also playing at Shrewsbury festival. We've got our tickets!
