On a serious note I do have a (small) budget for this.

My boss is taking her 6yo to see Romeo and Juliet at the Unicorn Theatre this Friday - are oyu allowed any strategic research julienetmum?

liquidclocks · 27/03/2007 13:27

Can you do a search for any of the reduced shakespeare company scripts?

wildwoman · 27/03/2007 13:27

ooh that sounds really interesting. Do you have a particular play in mind?

julienetmum · 27/03/2007 13:35

Rediced Shakespeare Co scripts would be subject to performing rights and are not necessarily designed for this age group to perform.

Shakespeare for Kids do some great ones but they are too long.
I had half wondered about Midsummer Nights Dream or The Tempest, perhaps using narrative and freeze frames alongside samples of the original language for the more able actors.

Couldn't you do the Mechanicals' Play from Midsummer Night's Dream? That would give about the right number of parts (because there are the posh ones making sarcastic comments as well as the actors) and it's about the right length already.

julienetmum · 27/03/2007 13:39

Also it doesn't need to be a full play, I had thought about the fairy story bit or play within a play in MSND (sorry if a bit vague, it's one of the plays I don't know well)

Great minds

I was thinking MSND, it has plenty of humour suitable for that age group.

KathyMCMLXXII · 27/03/2007 13:42

and the lines are short and manageable.
