Once again I am making the posters for my choir's concert [labour of love emoticon].
The draft I'd done went:
[place, time]
MOZART
Solemn Vespers
Davidde Penitente
Symphony No. 36
[orchestra, conductor, soloists]
[ticket details]
I sent them out to committee for approval and have been sent the following suggestion:
[place, time]
MOZART
Vesperae solennes de confessore K.399
Davidde penitente K.469
Symphony No. 36 in C Major K.425 ?The Linz?
[orchestra, conductor, soloists]
[ticket details]
I politely enquired whether we needed to include the K numbers, long titles etc because of a performing rights thing and was told that it was just the 'right' thing to do.
Now, we have a loyal following of people on the mailing list, local musos, choristers' mates etc etc who get their info from other sources, so the posters are mainly to attract the general public and people who haven't heard of the choir.
Bearing this in mind, surely the point of a poster is to make the concert appealing and easy to understand, rather than complex and elitist?
This is why I work hard to make clear, attractive posters...
And who honestly needs K numbers to identify works? Put them in the programme, yes, by all means, but on posters and flyers?
so... AM I BEING UNREASONABLE?
