I can't believe the tickt prices!!! Has anyone been and if so, can you recommend a not too expensive place to sit? Many thanks.

I can't remember too well, have been right up in the gods several times and in a box....you can hear pretty well right from the top though and if you're in the middle the view is pretty good (although vertiginous).

theatremonkey.com tells you more about seats in all the London theatres but doesn't seem to include the ROH, annoyingly.

what are you hoping to see? (nosey)

Jura might be able to help...

I go a lot and often only pay £30

You have to subscribe to their online mailing list so you know the day the tickets go on sale, then you have your pick

The amphitheatre is good, the closer to the front the better esp in Summer as the higher you get the hotter it is.

Also the slightly restricted view seats round the sides of the dress circle eg A100 ish (though you can't see the surtitles and have a little screen thing in front of you) and the lower slips of the Amphitheatre eg A95.

the seating plan is here

oh god yes it's boiling up the top

I've been several times and never paid more than £10 for a ticket.
We sit in the lower slips seats. It is restricted view (from the side by the stage on the seating plan 112/113ish)
I've enjoyed everything I've seen and haven't been too disappointed by the restricted view although we have missed chunks of action As it took place up at the back of the stage. (for £8 I don't think you can camplain really and I am fully aware of what I am paying for) I've only seen operas. I'm not sure they would be good seat choices for the ballets.
We are going to see Carmen in Dec and have paid more money for these seats so it will be interesting to compare. I think we have paid £29 for those.
If you want the cheaper option you do have to book early - like when the new season is announced. We booked the Carmen tickets and La Boheme which we saw a couple of weeks ago in August!
The ROH has a email mailing list which you can sign up to.

peachy we are going to la boheme I think next week. Was it good?

peachygirl · 13/11/2006 22:52

It was lovely!!
It made me cry ( but that might be connected to the pregnancy hormones)
I think it was opening night and there was an understudy in for musetta...It got a good review in the Times.

janinlondon · 14/11/2006 14:13

We've done lower slips too - quite good for kids as you can stand without bothering anyone behind you.

Lio · 14/11/2006 14:20

Hi rock, if you don't mind what you go to, ballet is cheaper (but you might have worked that out anyway).

rockandahardplace · 14/11/2006 17:43

HI 0 thanks all. Hoping to see Madama Butterfly in Feb but have probably left it too late already.

ooh I did notice a lot of children, not specifically yours though!

Just a hint btw, we had crap seats in the amphitheatre lower slips, front row, where you have to lean forward to see. After the first act I asked the front of house manager if we could change as dh had a bad back and she put us in the stalls With Emma Thompson and her GORG dh just in front of us!

CountessDracula · 25/11/2006 12:25
