DH suggested we should watch a musical in London. Just the two od us. I've seen Lion King years ago, and now can't decide… Wicked? Matilda? Miss Saigon? Phantom of the Opera?

Any suggestions???

Les Miserables. No contest.

If I could choose any musical at all it would be 42nd Street - I adore that show. Don't think it's on at the moment [helpful] After that, Pirates of Penzance, also not on I think [more helpful] Saw Michael Praed in that 100 years ago. He has a great arse voice. [helpful reminiscences]

What shows/theatre/music do you normally like?

I enjoyed Wicked but it did seem quite... girly... power girly.

Oh God yes les mis if it's on.

Matilda is the best thing I've ever seen! I've seen a lot of musicals, depends on your tastes....Book of Mormon is brilliant though not for easily offended, Wicked I've seen quite a few times, loved it, Billy Elliott is great. Urinetown has just reopened, it's fab & Memphis is opening soon also. Heard great things about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Not so keen on Phantom or Les Mis but depends on your tastes.

Www.theatremonkey.com will give you lots of info on what's on, reviews, ticket offers etc.

Of the ones I've seen I would definitely go back and see Les Mis and Miss Saigon, but definitely not Wicked.

I really want to see Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

All good but for a trip without DC I would choose Miss Saigon

Once!

It's slightly different as a musical but it really is one of the best at the moment. Small cast, strong story, more like a gig in a play.

Billy Elliott similarly amazing, slightly different to the film, very emotional.

I've just realised both my suggestions come from film adaptions both have pretty simple sets and let the story come first.

. Of the classic musicals Les Mis and Phantom are must sees.

Not all that keen on Wicked!

MillieV · 05/10/2014 11:19

I did watch Le Mis already, and DH is not too keen on it after watching the film.

We have now made the decision, and as suggested by MmeMorrible, we're going with Miss Saigon because it's without DC, and the trailer looked amazing!

We have noted Once and Phantom of the Opera for next year though.

Thanks a lot everyone! Can't wait!!!
