Hi, could anyone recommend how I can improve my voice. i sing in tune but my voice sounds week and it doesn't have what it takes for singing my songs. I'd be very grateful if someone could offer tips/advice.

why not try a couple of singing lessons? have a look in a music shop that's local to you - singing teachers often advertise there.

breath control is what you need, and good posture. concentrate on using your diaphragm and not your shoulders to breath in.

i'm not a singer though - am sure there are others that could give better tips!

Hi Fedda, there was a thread about this sort of thing not long ago.

Have a look here!

Is'nt drinking hot honey and lemon before you sing supposed to improve your voice?

Thank you very much everybody for your kind messages. Thank you, Littlefish for your link. I've read it throughout and found it very interesting. The problem for me is that I'm trying to record my own songs and they don't sound as good as I'd like them to sound. I really would like to sing them myself. It's not that I don't like professional singers to sing them , I do, very much so but it would be so nice for me to have the opportunity to present my music which trully comes from my heart. I'm a professional musician and I do sing to my students when I prepare them for aural exams, I'm not really shy when it comes to singing but when I listen back to my recordings I can't stop criticising myself. In your link someone said what do you have to loose. Well, for a start, you can loose your voice! It's not totally harmless. The choir option is not what I'm looking for because it's a group singing and I'm looking for a solo singing. In a group you need to blend in, as a solist you need to stand out. I sing in tune and I try to give all my heart to performing what I've composed. If my singing is not good it can ruin my songs.I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thank you.

In that case Fedda, it sounds as though you might benefit from a few individual singing lessons. You obviously have the confidence and the passion, but may not have your technique (particularly breathing) quite right. Depending on what sort of songs you write, you might want to approach someone who is not a traditional classical singing teacher, but rather a vocal coach.

I'm afraid I don't have any idea about how you find one, other than searching on the internet, or approaching on of the large music colleges to see if they have students on their musical theatre courses who may be interested in taking on a pupil.

Vocal Coaches

Good luck
