Will be very useful for a class I'm teaching.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

And thanks for those who helped last week with the "personal essay" topic. Smile

Brian Sewell, he's a HOOT

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:29

Oh yeah BS has become knowingly ridiculous hasn't he,rather like Nicholas Parsons...

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:30

Jon Ronson and Victor Lewis Smith(?) used to make me laugh when they wrote for Time out and Evening Standard (poss. 100 years ago)

oliveoil · 14/03/2006 10:30

AA Gill (The Times)

Caitlin Moran (Times again) sometimes does TV reviews, vvvvv funny

Enid · 14/03/2006 10:31

i hate all of them

money for old rope imo

harpsichordcarrier · 14/03/2006 10:31

Nancy Banks Smith in the Guardian (that's tv though, too low brow?)
Brian Sewell is fab

bosscat · 14/03/2006 10:31

same for me. AA Gill makes me laugh and did you read what Caitlin Moran said about Sharon Osbourne yesterday? All true and spot on.

oliveoil · 14/03/2006 10:32

fabulous. I wonder if she gets an email!

We should do a link.

JackieNo · 14/03/2006 10:32

For TV used to love Clive James - don't think he does it any more, does he?

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:32

Gill??
Gill?

Since when did being an oaf count as being funny?

Medea · 14/03/2006 10:37

Can anyone do a link to a Brian Sewell review they found particularly good?

Thanks for all these responses, by the way.

I don't think he is an oaf actually. His restaurant reviews are brilliant, and he does fantastic travel articles. And the tv review.

Always has me in stitches, his descriptions are hilarious.

Great way with words imo.

So ner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enid · 14/03/2006 10:38

so's he

Enid · 14/03/2006 10:39

(brian sewell)

oliveoil · 14/03/2006 10:40

he writes like he has a bad smell under his nose (BS)

Enid · 14/03/2006 10:41

BS by name BS by nature

Bugsy2 · 14/03/2006 10:42

Another vote for AA Gill on food & travel. Very incisive, very droll and surprisingly objective - IMO, of course. Have to confess to slightly fancying him as well! Wink

bakedpotato · 14/03/2006 10:42

Peter Bradshaw, Guardian film critic, v reliable

suzywong · 14/03/2006 10:43

I had Catilin Moran in the back of my cab once
I like her too, and Miranda Sawyer

Enid · 14/03/2006 10:45

aa gills review of the restaurant year ruined our lives:

"FOUR STARS
Bellamy's W1
Hive Beach Café Burton Bradstock, Dorset
Nobu Berkeley W1
Le Gavroche W1
Luciano SW1"

my local beach cafe has now doubled its prices and is full of utter tossers Angry

bosscat · 14/03/2006 10:46

I think Caitlin will be getting more than an email off La Osbourne. More like a good slapping. I can't defend AA Gill, I know how he comes across with his use of the words "the blonde". he does make me laugh though and I find him quite inciteful. I also like Michael Winner and he's vile

suzywong · 14/03/2006 10:49

NOT the Burton Bradstock beach cafe!

I also fondly remember the Horse with the Red Umbrella in Dorchester but that's by the by
