Urgent advice needed, My DH and I are thinking of taking my dd who will be 11 on 11th March to see The Nutcracker at Sheffield City Hall for her Birthday. We would be going to the matinee performance but I've suddenly just panicked, what are you supposed to wear? Is it okay to dress casually or do they expect you to dress up. Casual is better for all of us as we were thinking of going ice skating afterwards (a quick meal in between). Can anyone who's been before to something like this please give me some advice!!!! Many thanks, Louise.

Don't think you have to dress up these days, particularly not for a matinee. Hope your dd enjoys the Nutcracker - its one of my favourite ballets.

casual is fine
take a book Smile (I hate the ballet)

Ooh thank you, when you say casual though does it mean jeans or not, my poor old DH lives in jeans, not scruffy ones of course but I wouldn't want to get there and have them not let us in.

Casual is fine, but be prepared for lots of children in fairy dresses or disney princess ensembles. It kind of goes with the territory! But then there will be others in their scruffs so its whatever you want!

Louise don't panic, even the ROH doesn't have a dress code.

Thank you all for your advice, I took it and went smartly but not overdressed. There were people there in jeans and some in bow ties. Fortunately I did not spot in kids with fairy wings etc but I did see a couple of tiaras. My daughter sat transfixed for nearly 2 hours (very unusual, usually there would have been at least 3 trips to the toilet!!) and my hubby really enjoyed it, especially the orchestra with was fantastic. I now have a serious theatre bug and I would love to go see something else, whether it be a concert, show, dance etc, can anyone suggest anything that is really entertaining? I live in Yorkshire so will probably be looking at going to Leeds City Varieties or Sheffield City Hall unless anyone else knows of any other good theatres in Yorkshire. Louise xx

Why, a tutu of course!

I'm really surprised that no one else has suggested this
