I am reading his memoir 'An Evil Cradling' for a class next week, and I am just really struck by it, but it is before my time and I suppose the only thing I can compare it to is the terrible situation last year with Ken Bigley. All I really want to ask is, what are your memories of that time? Was it a big news story? And how did the media react to his capture and release? Also, what was going on in the world at that time, the book makes the global situation seem very volatile indeed. Previous to reading this, I hadn't heard of him, but I assume thats because I'm only 22. And if anyone hasn't read the book, I highly recommend it, it's an amazing read.

Bozza · 14/10/2005 15:48

No Cod Tamum admitted it too. And yes I think John McCarthy is rather attractive....

franke · 14/10/2005 15:52

He's got a lovely voice.

JanH · 14/10/2005 15:56

Very attractive, but much too short.

stleger · 14/10/2005 17:02

Is he short? Jan, thanks for confirming the Bedford thing - why do I remember something like that and forget where I put my shopping list! I'm amazed it was so long ago, it must have been a huge story on a human level for so many people to remember details.

Wow I'm so happy all of you have sharedthis, it's added so much to my reading of the book. I didn't know a film had been made. Wouldn't make for cheery viewing I suppose

John McCarthy is a bit too much of a smoothie for me. I do however have a crush on Brian Keenan - not so much his looks or anything but just his passion and soul - what a guy!

Brian Keenan on his release:

"I want to visit all the countries of the world, eat all the food in the world, drink all the drink and make love, I hope, to all the women in the world."

littlelamb · 17/10/2005 20:16

Wow. I have just finished the book, and I am amazed. I'm actually really sad to have finished it, I was enjoying it so much. Can't wait for my seminar tomorrow
