Will Social Services Be Informed?

My ex has recently been convicted of a serious assault.
We have children together, they stay with him once a month.
Will this conviction trigger any sort of response from social services?
Is anyone even likely to check if he has children or care?
A police officer I know has told me that I may well need to expect contact from SS.
He was very abusive towards myself both physically emotionally and verbally, but most of this, I have not reported.

There is absolutely no move towards concluding private law proceedings within 26 weeks. It's not a thing. The courts don't really care how long private proceedings go on for. They usually don't even list an initial hearing within 2 months of the application then you've got 12 weeks for a section 7, then several hearings after that, and private law is not prioritised. It can take 6 months or more for a contested final hearing to be listed. I've never in my career heard of a 26 week timescale for private law and I do a lot of private law work. I'm not saying such an intention or policy doesn't exist - but on the ground it definitely doesn't.

Ok, so I was initially wrong as I've said above re timescales...didn't get my brain in gear BUT pathfinder is being rolled out to address delay in family court proceedings to make things more 'front loaded ' and quicker. North Wales are citing cases are being concluded significantly quicker. Ergo there is a move to address delay.
I believe Devon/Cornwall also trialled it and now South Wales have adopted it as has another area in England.

Pathfinder is a pilot scheme with no timescales for wider roll out yet AFAIK

It’s not a crime against a child presumably the GBH so i doubt SS or a court will do much

He has been convicted yes, GBH, received an 18 month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months.

Recently or a long time ago? I’m guessing not recent otherwise you would have noticed him disappear.

I think she is saying this is recent but that the sentence is suspended ie he hasn't gone to prison but is liable to serve it custodially if he breaches anything put in place.

@Septemberisthenewyear
he didn’t go to prison - the sentence was suspended

I missed that bit. I would contact the police for a Claire/Sarah law request and then speak to NSPCC and SS.

His probation officer will do initial checks with social services to see if he/your kids (if he has disclosed their details) are known to them. If you’ve ever had any involvement with them, they will feed this information back. However, as a PP has pointed out, unless he is assessed as posing a risk to his children, a referral will not be made. I think the most pertinent piece of information is the nature of the GBH. Was it against a partner?

Hi All,
I have my children back, yes he was convicted three weeks ago, but I’ve only just found out through a newspaper article.
It was a road rage incident, in which he hit another man with a bottle, the man tried to defend himself with his hands, and ended with significant blood loss, he nearly died.
