Dangerous driving

Hi! I just wanted to see if there is anybody on here with any experience or law experience with dangerous driving.

Last year my husband was hit by a dangerous driver, we were at a public park and he drove at my husband at speed across a pedestrian area, hit him and another car and then drove off. I managed to get a picture of the car/reg and the police were called

Miraculously, my husband sustained minor injuries but has suffered with a bit of mild PTSD since.

It's been a year and we finally have been told that the man in question has been charged with dangerous driving. To be honest, I'm not thrilled with how the police have handled it. They haven't seemed bothered, makes me think if I just went out and ran someone over what the repercussions would be.

Of course it will now go to court but I am being a bit impatient and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what the kind of consequences are for this kind of crime?

Thanks!

Sentencing guidelines are available on Google 🙂

Depends on the mag/judge, priors and sentencing guidelines.

Got get them found guilty first though.

I know a certain member of the judiciary who loves a drunk driver - always confiscates the car that was used in the crime as well as the harshest punishment. Her assistant at a certain court, the son was killed by a DD.

Hopefully won’t be a youth - the YOS people will go the extra mile to get them off with as little as possible, even so far as to attempt to work the process, even in cases where there’s been murders. Can’t divulge the techniques they use, but I think they are just as bad as the crims, and all in the name of a liberal viewpoint of under developed frontal lobes meaning a 17 year old can quite literally get away with a scolding at times.

in short - systems fecked and at breaking point - so don’t hold your breath for anything serious to happen to the scumbag who used a car as a dangerous weapon.

sorry.

The police are seriously underfunded, he is being charged though so they have done their job. It may not even have been the police slowing things down, it's the CPS that decide who gets charged.

If you feel they have handled it badly you can make a complaint, but the best thing to do is to make sure you don't vote for charlatans who pocket all the money that should be going towards public services.

Loss of licence and requirement to resit driving test. Possibly jail but depends on previous convictions etc and is unlikely. High fine and some form of community order more likely.

Thank you everyone. I won't be making any complaints to the police. They have been lovely during the whole thing I just wish things had been done quicker but again that may have been out of their hands as someone has said.

I did Google the outcomes but it depends on a lot of factors including if you injure somebody. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience.

Thanks for the replies, I don't have any expectations for the outcome but would hope disqualification would be something they would think about.

I'm so sorry that happened to your husband. That must have been so scary for both of you. I hope the judge / magistrates do the right thing and impose a serious sentence. Well done on thinking quickly in the moment.

I can completely understand why you would want a quicker outcome, this is a serious incident and it's natural to want it resolved as soon as possible so you can move on. My only advice would be to try to move on without having this resolved if you can- therapy, especially for your husband, so he can process this and come to terms with what has happened. Don't let this scumbag waste a moment more of your lives.
