not often but I looked up how many sex offenders were in my postcode (a nice and upcoming area of a city) and was horrified

Frankly most people, including the OP, will have no clue about how much crime is in an area. Even the published statistics are inaccurate.

Much of it is very hidden. Drug dealing (lots of people don't seem to see it!), County Lines drug running, domestic abuse, rapes, thefts, online frauds, postal scams, phone call scams - I assure you it's happening all around you. And a lot of it isn't reported to the police.

Car break-ins, catalytic converter thefts, car thefts, muggings, burglaries are all fairly common in my neighbourhood. Serious assaults get posted on the local police fb page, maybe once a month along with grow house busts. I'm sure there's plenty of hidden crime plus there's obviously vandalism, kids killing wildlife etc.

Just had a quick look online and violence and sexual offences are actually the most common in my postcode. I actually just found one for feb in the v small road (10 houses) that I live in! I know all the neighbours..

Well, my hometown is always on 24 hours in Police Custody.
I’ve seen a burglary take place at night and rang the police, they may as well have been on the moon by the description of how far away they were.
Also, another burglary took place and the guy hid the stolen goods in a garden that my cctv covers (I live on a private road). I forwarded the footage to the police. He got 2 and a half years.
