Lotting

So the husband just has been to lidl and people are taking what they want as the head office will not pay for a security guard. He stopped a few. But if the shops don't have security due to money, the police will not do anything about it. It's a sign of no social control and the bigger problem is if a shop closes it will affect, jobs on many levels, food production and the rest, rollers, packaging etc, increase food costs and we will ultimately starve.

Why can't we start our own police they started in the same way and are not fit for purpose.

That's not looting

JessieLongleg · 31/03/2023 15:12

@EmmaEmerald I agree it does feel law less, not just stealing but gang crime. There are gangs that operate across the car park pretending to be homeless. And the local in group gangs. It's a shame as people are complaining so they want to believe in and have a better area.

@Felix125 its looting as word has got out and multiple people are doing trolley dashing at the same time of day.

Then people think why should I pay if they don't and it gets worse.

I work in the justice system, this not gang/organised crime. It's shop theft. You might have some local Street drinkers/class A substance misusers who are working together.
Lidl need to pay for a security guard.
Where did you get your stats on a 12% crime rate increase? It's not accurate.

UndercoverCop · 31/03/2023 15:19

It's also not looting.

Felix125 · 31/03/2023 15:35

The shops need to take more responsibility.

If I left all my valuables on a table on my drive way - or left my car unlocked with my wallet and phone on full display. I would be criticised by society for not taking steps to prevent a theft from taking place.

The shops need to do this - but they are putting profits first.

They often won't allow shop staff to challenge shoplifters in the act - as it the shop worker gets injured or has to go to court, it costs the shop more money to cover their shifts

@Felix125 running any system on only treating the worst creates further problems. Hence why I can't walk for half the day. Police are not dealing with burglaries anymore. They are complaining about the mental health work as the NHS mental health is not treating people. My psychologist says they don't have enough money to only treat 50% and that's was pre COVID.

@ProjectBanana ours only has one so people are learning to come in when not there.

@UndercoverCop it's not traditional gang but people are letting the word go around they will not get stopped

@myheartmyhead I would say traditional shop lifting is hidden not just walking out with stuff in plan sight

@MuthaHubbard that's good but I live in a poor area with groups of people that have lower employment rates.

I agree - but as it stands we don't have nowhere near enough cops to cover all incidents.

So we have to take the priority cases or the ones with the most threat, harm & risk attached.

But - organisations have to do more to help themselves instead of just allowing things to happen and just expect the police to fix it.

HuggingtheHRT · 31/03/2023 17:36

This is what happens when the Government reduce funds for policing and/or when people's incomes are squeezed so much they become desperate. It's not OK, but the long-term answer is bigger and more complicated than security guards in supermarket doorways.

JessieLongleg · 31/03/2023 18:31

@HuggingtheHRT totally agree the problem is my husband is already saying if they can why can't I. Food is so expensive no one is not noticing depending on income. So it causes a bigger effect.

OP posts:
JessieLongleg · 31/03/2023 18:33

@Felix125 we see it across the board cut social care, hospital stuff, cut teachers creates more problems. Cut don't make problems go away

OP posts:
Felix125 · 31/03/2023 18:43

I completely agree - you need more staff in these jobs.
But the cost to the public purse is huge
So you will need to radically reduce salaries to enable more staff to be employed
But most people wont stay in these jobs due to the low wages

JessieLongleg · 31/03/2023 19:44

@maximist 😂

@Felix125 I think it's interesting that the government can find money for their friends companies supplying the government but not social problems. Then they blame it on the individual.

So your husband is saying he's going to steal because other people do?
Does your husband have no morals then?

goingtotown · 04/05/2023 22:38

My Lidl has a security guard, he's on his phone all day.
