I need to report my grandad as I feel he is unsafe to be driving. I need to do this anon as can't risk family finding out. Iv tried googling DVLA but can't actually find correct number to call. Or can I speak to his GP?

I’ll help. I’m the link above “ I have concerns over someone’s fitness to drive” is under Drivers Medical

I wish I had done this about a friends dad....he took us to the airport and was all over the road...wrong way on the roundabouts....i was terrified...i told her to report him but she refused....he has given up now but could have caused many accidents.

In my experience reporting to DVLA is a complete waste of time. The person reported was asked if they thought they were fit to drive (via letter). Of course they said yes, and continued to drive.

It is so difficult and I really feel for you. Unfortunately the only way we were able to stop my FIL from driving was by speaking to his doctor.

FIL went food shopping one morning and 3 hours later still wasn't home. We reported it to the police and FIL's registration was "pinged" by the police two counties away. FIL had turned left instead of right when coming out of the supermarket and when he became lost he just kept driving as he had become confused. We had suspected he had dementia for a while but he refused to see anyone.

FIL blamed us for having his licence taken away and we had to sell his car. Unfortunately he never forgave us. He has passed away now but we still know we did the right thing.

When my FiL became a danger on the road, one of his sons simply took away the keys. It is hard for us all to imagine that we might have to give up driving. It feels like losing one’s independence, We have told our daughter that she has permission to tell us when the time comes.
