Bit random. Today I received a letter from a car insurance company saying as they're unable to contact me via email, if I don't contact them in the next week, they will cancel the insurance policy. (Taken out only last week)
I thought that's odd. Next letter, bulkier envelope with all the insurance documents. Someone (called Zara Pants - like really??) had insured an old Vauxhall in my name with themselves as the named driver. The only details matching was my name and home address - everything else, dob, my licence type, how long I've had it etc - made up!!
I called the insurers, explained the surprise at getting these in the post. They've passed it to fraud investigation team now. I just wonder why would anyone do this? What is there to gain?? They were only insured for about a week, as now it's cancelled due to bank details being wrong and me calling it in as a fake insurance policy.
Never had this sort of stuff happen before, I'm a bit spooked! Is there a scam or something, why would someone fake a car insurance that's invalid anyway?
